 Sea to Summit's Talus Sleeping Bags Featuring Ultra-Dry Down™ We just received word that one of the best sleeping bags on the market has been loaded onto the boat and is on its way to our doors. With delivery expected by the end of the month, now is a great time to take a look at some of the things that make this an exceptional sleeping bag.
The Talus will be one of the first sleeping bags available with the new water resistant down. Add to that an impressive hydrophobic yet breathable shell and a beautiful construction and you have one of the most technologically advanced and comfortable sleeping bags on the market. Appalachian Outfitters is proud to be the area's ONLY Sea to Summit bag dealer.
 The Talus sleeping bags are filled with Ultra-Dry Down™, a high lofting, high quality, water-resistant down. While Ultra-Dry Down™ is not completely waterproof (no "dry" down product is) it repels moisture to an extraordinary degree and dries 60% faster than untreated down. To see a demonstration of the treated down visit: Down-tek. Additionally, Ultra-Dry Down™ retains loft and does not weigh any more than untreated down. It is also anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. The 2D Nylon NanoShell™ fabric on the Talus sleeping bag is another impressive feature that sets it apart. The shell is 20 Denier Nylon with a DWR finish that has a 1000mm hydrostatic head and breathability of 7500g/m� MVTR. With that said, even the most technology obsessed gearheads will forget about numbers for a while when they see the beautiful glacier blue color. Not only did the designers pay particular attention to the quality of down and the type of shell on these bags, they also spent a good deal of creative energy on the fit and finish. The complex construction of chambers keeps the high quality down exactly where it needs to be to insulate you, while the reverse differential cut (the liner is larger than the shell on the underside of the bag) allows the down to loft up around your torso and legs. An over-sized zipper draft tube and draft collar prevents heat leaking out, and the zipper features an anti-snag system that refuses to snag. Ergonomically placed draw-cords buried within the down and a hidden insulated pocket for electronics and valuables make the Talus as easy to use as it is comfortable. The Talus is offered as a Ts I (with 400g of down), Ts II (with 550g of down) and Ts III (with 700g of down). Appalachian Outfitter's Gives Back! The greatest part about being in the outdoor industry is the chance to give back and safeguard the outdoors for future generations. Some of our staff have just returned from a week in Northeast New Mexico after working as part of the American Hiking Society's Volunteer Vacation program. Every year we outfit dozens of kids and adults headed for Philmont Scout Ranch, The Boy Scout's of America's premier high adventure camp. We only thought it right to give something back to this awesome backpacking destination. For one week, 16 volunteers and four Philmont conservation staff worked high in the Sangre de Cristo range to expand and do finish work on a new trail and then spent a day planting ponderosa pine seedlings on a barren ridge line that was devastated by the 2002 Ponil Complex fire that burned 92,500 acres in northern New Mexico, including 28,000 acres on Philmont property. While planting, we had a surprise visit from former U.S. senator, Governor, and Mayor, The Honorable George Voinavich, and his wife. Carrying heavy equipment up rugged terrain at high altitude is tough work, but knowing your efforts will help make the back country accessible for future trekkers can be an extremely satisfying experience.
