Angel Island hike - April 7th

Hello Everyone!

 

Several folks have requested that someone organize a hike at Angel Island on April 7^th, so here it is:

 

·         Meeting place:   McKinley Park, corner of 33^rd Street & McKinley Blvd (by the tennis courts) in Sacramento.  For those of you not driving to Tiburon, there is free street parking at this location.

 

·         Meeting time:    8 AM, Saturday, April 7^th

 

·         If you are interested, please state whether or not you can be a driver when replying to this email.  If you can drive, please let us know how many you can take.

 

·         Ferry boats will depart Tiburon every hour from 10 am to 4 pm.  The last ferry departs Angel Island at 4:20 pm.  This will give us about 5 or 6 hours on the island.  Ferry tickets are $13.50 for adults and $11.50 for children 6 to 12 years old.  The Ferry Terminal is located at 21 Main Street in Tiburon.

 

·         The California Hiking guidebook lists this trail as a “2” on a scale of 1 to 5, with ”1” being the easiest trails.  You can hike the perimeter of the island, which is 5 miles, or include Livermore Peak which is an additional mile (and a 700’ elevation gain).  Or you can just visit some of the historical buildings, hang out at the dock, and eat popcorn and ice cream!

 

·         The guidebook states, “A hike around Angel Island on Perimeter Trail provides great views of the bay and a historical tour amid remnants of the island’s military past.  And it’s long enough to provide a decent workout to boot……When linked with Perimeter/Summit Trail, this is the most scenic hike in the entire Bay Area.  The only downer is that the trail is actually a road, but somehow it still manages to inspire.”

Hi Charlotte,

Since most of us will leave Sacto. at 8 AM, we’ll probably arrive in Tiburon by 10 AM.  The ferries leave Tiburon at 10 AM and 11 AM.  So we’ll try to catch the 10 o’clock ferry, but may have to catch the 11 AM ferry if we’re a little late.
