October 1st Hike

Hello Fellow Hikers,

 

Some of you may have noticed a planned hike Oct. 1st in the last few emails that were sent out.  However, if you didn't, don’t worry.  We're changing it up anyways! =D  Don't we love changes??  Just part of life...  Anyways, after going to Northstar for geocaching, it was decided that we should skip the Oct 1st hike at Squaw Valley. 

 

Since Oct 1st is still marked on some of our calendars, it was decided to change the hiking location.  Since this may be our last hike the next hike is STENUOUS/INTERMEDIATE to ADVANCED.  The pace will be faster since we're fighting daylight.  Currently, the Sierras have lightning storms.  So, we have a Plan A & a Plan B to accommodate this.  Rain or chances of lightning storms cancels Plan A.  Below are the plans.

 

Plan A:  If weather permits, we'll hike Pyramid Peak in the Sierras.  See link below for more details on this hike.  Note permits are free & required.  Drivers are responsible for enforcing the permit requirements for the people in your car.

Plan B: If Plan A is a no go, then we'll hike Black Mountain in Santa Clara County.  See link below for more details on this hike.

Update on this Saturday's hike (Oct. 1st)...

 

There is a 10% rain on (Friday and) Saturday and a 40% T-storm on Sunday for the Tahoe area.  Normally, a 10% chance of rain is not a big deal.  However, there is some scramble through rocks to get to the top of the Pyramind Peak.  If it rains, the rocks at the top will be wet and slippery.  For safety concerns, it's best we don't chance hiking up slippery rocks.  The forcast for the weekend in Santa Clara currently shows no chance of rain.  Therefore, we'll go with Plan B.  I've never done the Black Mountain hike.  So, we'll all have to figure it out and hopefully not get too lost along the way.  Below are the people I heard back from.

 

1.) Curt - Yes

2.) Frank - Yes

3.) Dale & Wendy - Still a yes?  Hope you two had a great time in Germany.  Are you two back?

4.) Monica - Still a yes?

4.) Jim - Curt said yes for you but can you confirm.

I’m going on the hike this Saturday and will be giving a ride to Mei & Jim.  Do you plan to meet in Sacto or at the trailhead?
