Hi Everyone!
I’m planning a hike to the Enchanted Pools on Saturday, August 11th. The Pools are located in the El Dorado National Forest near Wright’s Lake off of Highway 50. They aren’t listed in any guide books I’ve seen. However, I’d rate the trail as “easy” since it’s only 2 miles to the Pools from the parking lot and the trail is mostly flat.
At the Pools, you can wade in the water, eat your lunch, or swim. You can return the 2 miles to the parking lot via the same route that you walked in.
For those who want to get in some additional miles, we can hike up to Twin Lakes which is another 2+ miles past the Enchanted Pools. There is no trail between the Pools and Twin Lakes, so you’ll be bushwhacking uphill. However, there is a trail from Twin Lakes back to the parking lot. This will be a loop-trail hike with a total distance of about 8-9 miles, including the Enchanted Pools.
I checked the forecast for the general area near Wright’s Lake and Tom’s estimate appears correct – a high temp Saturday in the mid to upper 80s.
The Enchanted Pools have pine trees around them, so you can find a shady spot to sit and have lunch. Actually, I think the hotter it is the better – the water is more inviting when it’s hotter!
We’re still meeting at the Sunrise/Highway 50 light rail station at 8 AM Saturday. See you then, Mary!
