Forestof Piano is a story that follows Kai Ichinose, a boy who lives in the red light district but escapes at night to play the piano in the forest. Shuhei Amamiya, the grade-school son of a professional pianist, transfers to Moriwaki Elementary, Kai's elementary school. But it doesn't take long before Shuhei is picked on by the class bullies, and gets involved in a dare to play the mysterious piano in the forest, leading to his meeting with Kai, who seems to be the only one capable of getting sound out of the thought-to-be broken piano. Kai's ability earns him the respect of Shuhei and his music teacher, former master pianist Sosuke Ajino. Both Shuhei and Ajino try to get Kai to take proper piano lessons, but Kai is at first resistant to refining his piano-playing technique. However, after hearing Sosuke play a Chopin piece he just can't seem to play himself, he relents.

Forest of Piano is written and illustrated by Makoto Isshiki. It was published by Kodansha in Japan, who first serialized the series in the seinen manga magazine Young Magazine Uppers from 1998 to 2004, and later in Weekly Morning from 2004 to 2015.[3] The series was published into 26 tankōbon volumes, with the first volume being released on August 6, 1999,[8] and the final volume released on December 22, 2015.[9]

An anime television series adaptation produced by Gaina aired from April 8, 2018, to April 14, 2019, on NHK.[38][4] The first season is directed by Gaku Nakatani. Ryūtarō Suzuki as the series director, Aki Itami and Mika Abe are in charge of series composition, and Sumie Kinoshita is handling character designs. Harumi Fuuki is composing the series' music.[39] The anime was originally listed to air for 12 episodes,[40] but was later announced to air for 24 episodes.[41] The 24 episodes will air in two seasons, with the first season airing from April to July 2018, and the second season airing from January to April 2019.[42] Hiroyuki Yamaga will take over as director for the second season, while the most of the staff and cast will reprise their roles.[43] Netflix have announced that they had acquired exclusive streaming rights for the series worldwide, and simulcast the series in Japan, and released the series globally in September 2018.[44]

The movie adaptation debuted in 9th place at the Japanese box office the week it came out, unusually high for a non-franchise animated film.[46] By the end of the year, it had grossed the equivalent of $1,555,297, ranking 119 on the overall yearly box office chart for Japan.[47] In South Korea, the film played for 50 weeks and grossed the equivalent of $182,884.[48] The film was nominated for the 2008 Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year.[49]

Pop music genres have become increasingly buried under the visual spectacle of the performance, and there are certainly examples of it on both ends of the spectrum, when it comes to the poetic sophistication of pure performances, such as the simple set ups of a single singer with a guitar or a lone pianist, or the crude overblown nature of Broadway hit concerts: smoke machines, multi-coloured light shows and confetti included. Everything in between may equate to the gigantic ventures of the more organic nature of live orchestral performances, which is a topic that will be brought up later.

because of spoiler warning i didnt read full post. I think i will watch it first then read the post. I am learning piano for a month now, so i am naturally intersted in movie about piano. But i have few Q.

"Kai, Kai, Kai. Everything had to come back to him. He was in love with Kai, still, and had been for a very long time, no matter how much he tried to suppress and deny it.

I suppose you could say he was finally facing the big "I told you so" that he's been needing to see his entire life.

Except, it's much too late and there really is no going back.

He just has to keep going forward."

Shuhei looked up at Kai with utter devotion as he said to him, "I love you."

I loved you, and I probably still do, and for a while the feeling may remain...

As may God grant you to be loved again.

Shuhei knew that this was going to be a problem.

He knew that the way Kai looked at him, so innocent and warm-hearted, was going to be a problem.

He knew that making up with Kai and letting him back in his life was going to be a problem.

Kai gathered his thoughts together. Shuhei's parents think that he has a girlfriend.... A lot of people think that Shuhei has a girlfriend... Shuhei does not have a girlfriend... Shuhei needs someone to pretend to be his girlfriend... Shuhei wants Kai to pretend to be his girlfriend...

Shuuhei and Kai had an heart piercing discussion in Chopin's forest. Even though they love each other, none of them know that such love is reciprocated, and the argument they had in the forest only worsened everything. Will they fix what is broken and realize their love for each other or will they drift apart until they no longer can fix anything?

The only thing we're sure of is, every time they look at the starts, they think of each other.

A series of drabbles themed around Chopin's Etudes. My first drabbles! They will be imperfect (not exactly 100 words) but I'll keep it between 100 and 150, not counting notes and comments. Major key etudes will be in Kai's POV and minor keys in Shuhei's.

"Showing up to announcements late reflects poorly on the discipline of all Japanese competitors." Ajino railed at Kai. "Next time, I'll help you get ready," Shuhei offered. Based on etudes 4 and 13 from The Etude Drabbles.

Reeling from a poor competition outcome, Shuhei retreats to his family's remote mansion. There, he discovers a mysterious piano with a link to the past. He begins to correspond with 19th-century Kai, who teaches him to love the piano. Based on a tumblr poem (link in author's notes).

However, it is time for Kai Ichinose to not only leave his mentor and his hometown behind, but to play the piano without holding it back. And you know what, this is what Sousuke Ajino wanted in the first place.

But more importantly, Andrzej told Piotr to judge the finalists fairly based on merit, rather than pushing Lech Szymanowski to become the winner. Come to think of it, I wonder if Pavlas is aware that the judges are rigging the competition just to make Lech Szymanowski as the rising star of the piano world by letting him win?

I think more than ever I wish the characters in this show would just shut up. Because the plot is so focused on playing the piano and the sound that comes from it, not having just pure peace and letting the notes fly is a weird detriment to the whole thing.

Piano no Mori continues the story back in Poland where our dual protagonists of Ichinose Kai and Amamiya Shuhei move onto the next stage of the Chopin competition, using the rest of the runtime to find themselves in the realm of music and their reason to play the piano.

I got into Piano no Mori purely for the reason of it being a piano series and music series based on the music just interest me and bring me back to a time when it was a staple in my life. Not only that, but the narrative of nature vs. nurture brought about some interesting questions in music philosophy on technical playing vs. playing by feel. Shuhei and Kai I feel really helped play out this dynamic and were a main force as to why I had the urge to watch and finish this series.

Born in the family of professional pianists, Amamiya Shuhei was raised to be one himself. Piano was not his hobby but it was his life mission. And he was very good at it. The story began when Shuhei moved to Moriwaki elementary school and met Ichinose Kai. Kai had never taken music lesson but he had been sneaking into the forest near his house to play the abandoned piano. After hearing Kai played, Shuhei realized that Kai might be far better pianist than he could ever be.
