Igot a kindle copy of Darrell Young's "Mastering the Nikon D700", and to be quite frank, I do not find it very helpful, in a sense that it is not very clear in its explanations. (At least not to me). Concepts seem to be crammed up (don't like the format design of the book) and the authors do not explain the different concepts and procedures in a clear cut way.
Which other book would you guys recommend? It may seem strange, even absurd, but I find the pdf manual of the D700 more helpful!

When I bought it, it was ordering from his website and waiting for shipment from the US. I think that's still the case, but if you want an up-to-date status, you might want to check at his site.

There is a lot of overlap and new insights from one book to the next. You basically need to find one book that covers what you personally need, and just skim through various books to supplement your knowledge.
Years ago I bought Rocky Nook's book on the D90, and later used it to get a good understanding of the D700 as both cameras have similar features and menu options.

Why not download the PDF version of the Nikon manual?
Read it twice: once for surface comprehension, again for deeper grasp.
Or just look up what you need...when you need it.
(Looking up answers for others can force you to learn something new, too.)

I do not use a manual of the D700, I can write one about my experiences using the camera itself with various of settings and the Picture Utility tool to create various Picture styles for certain circumstances, weddings indoors for flash, weddings outdoors with sunny or cloudy settings......
The list can go on and on...
People should stop whining and complaining about any camera and just use it to the full potential before they just want to get newer gear, keep in mind to use proper glass on the D700 and not those variable F-stop lenses....
i also have a Nikon D700 Digital Field Guide in pdf format if you want me to email it to you, send me an email address then....

How is D700 different from any other camera for one to read a camera specific book on photography? Doesn't it make sense to learn photography first of all and then adapt the camera you have for your needs through the menu settings that are explained in the camera's manual?
Once you learn about photography in general you can use pretty much any camera. I would like to read Nikon D700 Digital Field Guide to see what it covers because I maybe wrong here.

A camera manual might cover the basics only, or show you how to achieve something you already know (even if this camera may do it differently), or mention features that invite you to explore new or different options. Additional reading and experimentation optional / recommended.

I dont know what value it could add in addition to the manual :) Plus all settings are standard to all DSLRs if you know photography you can figire out d700 in a matter of seconds. Yes there are different buttons but again if you know anything about photography its intuitive.
I think people who read such books are people who just like to read anything. They will read even book on how to read a book

If you are new to photography, I'm sure there are a number of books that could help. Beyond that, I would say read the manual a couple times to understand how to operate the camera, then Experience becomes the best book.

Like I said what can D700 do that any other camera cant? or let me put it this way - what technique photographer can work with D700 that cant be replicated with any other camera? HSS, CLS? but if a person decided to go with a pro body then he/she has a little idea and general knowledge of photography.
Anything you do with D700 can be done with any other camera, so picking up and reading a specific model DSLR book on photography just doesn't make sense.

Now, I suggest you do get that book. You might learn something new - an aspect the manual didn't mention. It is not that the book will list a new thing hidden in the camera - it is about the views on how the features can be used - from the viewpoint of a guy that has been using Nikon cameras for decades.
