In 1987, Corel engineers Michel Bouillon and Pat Beirne undertook to develop a vector-based illustration program to bundle with their desktop publishing systems. That program, CorelDraw, was initially released in 1989.[1] CorelDraw 1.x and 2.x ran under Windows 2.x and 3.0. CorelDraw 3.0 came into its own with Microsoft's release of Windows 3.1. The inclusion of TrueType in Windows 3.1 transformed CorelDraw into a serious illustration program capable of using system-installed outline fonts without requiring third-party software such as Adobe Type Manager; paired with a photo-editing program (Corel Photo-Paint), a font manager, Corel Capture, and several other pieces of software, it was also part of the first all-in-one graphics suite.[2]

CorelDRAW was originally developed for Microsoft Windows 2.1, and versions existed for Windows 3.1x, CTOS, OS/2, and Power Macintosh. With the release of Corel Linux, CorelDRAW 9 was released with package support for Debian and Red Hat-based Linux.[47] Version 11 was released for Mac OS X in 2001, but was then discontinued on both Linux and Mac. CorelDRAW was available only for Windows until the 2019 version became the first to support macOS.[48][49][50]

With version 6, Corel introduced task automation using a proprietary scripting language, Corel SCRIPT. Support for VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) macros was added in version 9,[52] and Corel SCRIPT was eventually deprecated. Support for VSTA (Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications) has been integrated in Windows versions since X5,[30] and currently requires Visual Studio 2017.[53] Version 2019 added Javascript as an option for cross-platform scripting with MacOS support; however, the built-in IDE does not support it as of 2020.[54]

In its first versions, the CDR file format was a completely proprietary file format primarily used for vector graphic drawings, recognizable by the first two bytes of the file being "WL". Starting with CorelDraw 3, the file format changed to a Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF) envelope, recognizable by the first four bytes of the file being "RIFF", and a "CDR*vrsn" in bytes 9 to 15, with the asterisk "*" being just a blank in early versions.[56] Beginning with CorelDraw 4 it included the version number of the writing program in hexadecimal ("4" meaning version 4, "D" meaning version 13). The actual data chunk of the RIFF remains a Corel proprietary format.

In December 2006, the sK1 open-source project team started to reverse-engineer the CDR format.[61] The results and the first working snapshot of the CDR importer were presented at the Libre Graphics Meeting 2007 conference taking place in May 2007 in Montreal (Canada).[62] Later on the team parsed the structure of other Corel formats with the help of the open source CDR Explorer.[63] As of 2008, the sK1 project claims to have the best import support for CorelDraw file formats among open source software programs. The sK1 project also developed the UniConvertor, a command line open source tool which supports conversion from CorelDraw ver.7-X4 formats (CDR/CDT/CCX/CDRX/CMX) to other formats. UniConvertor is also used in the Inkscape and Scribus open source projects as an external tool for importing CorelDraw files.[64][65][66]

In 2007, Microsoft blocked CDR file format in Microsoft Office 2003 with the release of Service Pack 3 for Office 2003.[67][68] Microsoft later apologized for inaccurately blaming the CDR file format and other formats for security problems in Microsoft Office and released some tools for solving this problem.[69]

CorelLaser will not work with that machine. You have two choices of software, RDWorks or LightBurn. Personally I prefer LightBurn over RDWorks, it is much faster, more features, and easier to use than RDWorks.

I am having a hard time. I was using CorelDraw x6 and was able to send the cut info to my Graphtec CE6000-60 through the plugin (Cutting Master 3) in corel. Worked great. I have recently upgraded to CorelDraw 2017 and can not get it to cut at all from the upgraded version. The link to CM3 is there but nothing happens. Is there a fix for this or do I need to find another cutting program that works with the CorelDraw 2017?

I have IMac with parallels software to run Windows 10, since both Coreldraw and Flexisign stopped supporting Mac. Got a new Graphtec CE6000+-120. When I installed Cutting Master 4, it does not show up in my Coreldraw taskbar, as old versions did, or under the new plugins heading. Do in need to reinstall or move a .gms file maybe?

If your running Windows 10, why are you messing with Coreldraw? Graphtec offers Graphtec Pro Studio for FREE, which is like Flexisignpro with out the RIP. Just enter in your serial number from your vinyl cutter and use it.. I would it I had a newer Graphtec. It is only for Windows.

As Pixelpusher said, cutting master has new version 4.2 ( i updated and everything works fine now) that works with new windows and coreldraw. I use coreldraw at work in new job, so haven't had a chance to try out graphic pro studio. I am happy to hear it is made by SAi, as I used to own a cobbled together graphtec and Mac ver. Flexisign Pro. When it stopped working with my computer and SAi stopped supporting mac, my life was skewered. Now I have newer, faster, more accurate, equipment and software, and more than one way to skin a vinyl cat. Thanks Skeeter, I had almost forgotten we had graphic studio at work and now at home. I will try it out today.

That i will agree, I prefer to cut out of Flexi myself, but I do use Cut Master through Corel an awful lot also. On other forums i'm on people are struggling with Graphtec Pro Studio, but I found it much easier to use (I started with Flexi) when I started out. now I use Corel Draw most of the time

I started with Flexi also, and think it is very user friendly.. The manual is in the HELP section above the layout screen. (it is in all of my software). I have always cut with Flexistarter, but I was able to pick up a legal Flexidesigner10 for cheap a few years ago. It is the same as Flexisignpro10, just no cutter drivers. It is design only. I love it.

Maybe quit relying on plugins. and Cutting Master. You can download FREE Signblazer, unlimited trial, But you will have to save your files as older .eps files. The Graphtec FC7000 is in it. You could also, purchase, Vinyl Master Cut from the Vinyl Master site, and use it for your cutting software. Think it runs around $59.00. You can even pay and download it. I have a FC7000-MK2-75 and have always used Flexistarter 8.6 with it. Bare bones software, but great cutting software. Vinyl Master is much cheaper.

Please excuse my relative stupidity ;) RE: Earlier versions of Coreldraw attrofy (IS/IT--Management)7 Aug 02 08:50Just a few things to consider, if you spent $300+ on PM7, what kind of complimnet is a $30 - $50 outdated solution going to provide for you? Most everything that these older versions could offer, will most likely be included in some form or another of PM7.

Depending on what you are doing with the Corel programs, and what functionality you are trying to get out of it, you may have to check the version first, For example, RAVE is only available in version 10.

I may be mistaken, but isn't version 11 for the MAC only? If there is a PC version, then as is typical, within a few months, older copies of 10 should start going on sale. If you are looking for use on a MAC platform, you will have a lot more limited price options - most of them will be expensive.

Also, if you do some searching online you will find some OEM versions of Corel. Most of these are for installs with new systems, and not meant for resale incividually, yet people still sell them. They are fully licensable versions, but you have to deal with the ethical and legal aspects of such purchases. Otherwise, just do a search on google for "Corel Draw retail". Also check www.pricewatch.com and www.dirtcheapsoftware.com. You probably won't find an OEM version for MAC.

Russell RE: Earlier versions of Coreldraw mericat (TechnicalUser)(OP)8 Aug 02 04:02Thanks Russell. In the UK and on PC. We paid just over 400 for PM 7, and I just know they are not going to authorise any substantial additional expenditure.

What are OEM versions? I have never heard of them before. Please excuse my relative stupidity ;) RE: Earlier versions of Coreldraw mericat (TechnicalUser)(OP)8 Aug 02 04:21Thanks Russell. What do you think of Coreldraw Essentials 9.0? Might that be enough? I only want to be able to edit photos and jpg images so that I can put them into eps or tiff for PM. Also maybe do a bit of work on some basic designs, like logos. Please excuse my relative stupidity ;) RE: Earlier versions of Coreldraw viol8ion (TechnicalUser)8 Aug 02 08:19I am using CorelDraw8 and get along just fine. I must admit my uses are limited to very small graphics elements that are used in connection with other apps, and for importing AutoCAD drawing and converting to TIFFs and/or EPS for inclusion in Pagemaker and Lotus WordPro documents.

mericat,

If all you are doing is editing photos, then Photopaint or photshop may be all you would need. Paint Sho Prop is another good app. If all you are doing is editing photos and JPGs, PS5.5 would be a good version and is probably available on half.com unopened if you look around. Finding some in the UK may be a bit more difficult. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions. RE: Earlier versions of Coreldraw attrofy (IS/IT--Management)11 Aug 02 20:25OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) versions are the software equivalance to "white box" versions of hardware. They don't come in full retail boxes, and are usually meant to be sold by computer manufacturers (Compaq, Dell, HP, Gateway etc) as bundled software. They don't usually have manuals or pretty packaging (they are usually black and white photos of the box art) and usually only have the program on the disk, no add-ons that come with software bundles from other producers (i.e. "lite" versions of other software). I found quite a few versions of Corel 9 for about $35 - $45 (us). Computer shows (here in the US anyway) usually have OEM software. There are sites out there that that is all they sell.

Russell RE: Earlier versions of Coreldraw FreshJava (Programmer)12 Aug 02 11:43Russell in reply to isn't V.11 only for mac the answer is no. It is available on Windows and Mac. Doesn't look like there is a Linux version as of yet.
here is the link to the site.

RE: Earlier versions of Coreldraw attrofy (IS/IT--Management)12 Aug 02 15:46FreshJava,

I found out about a day after I posted this that what you said is indeed true. I found an add in a magazine about 2 weeks ago for Corel Draw 11, and it was indeed for MAC with no mention of a PC version. When I checked Corel's Website, there was no mention of version 11. So I was basing it on slightly out of date, assumptions. Thanks for setting the record straight on this one.
