Just for curiosity, would you (cranvas) possibly accept pull requests?
Maybe, I will be missing something in cranvas in the meantime and will
try to implement it.
I like cranvas (and ggobi) very much, using it in my research.

BTW I wrote idendro, an interactive dendrogram for R (as a Google
Summer of Code project last year), which is based on
qtpaint/qtbase/plumbr and "bidirectionally" integrates with cranvas in
terms of live bindings over mutaframes, such that you can i) color
clustered data both in dendro and in feature space projections in
cranvas, and ii) see (in dendro) which data get brushed data in
cranvas plots. You can take a look at
https://github.com/tsieger/idendro, e.g. idendroCranvasDemo. idendro
is still under development, but should work, in general. (Any comments
would be highly welcome.)
