I've loved the Cr-48. It came just before Christmas 2010. Any Chromebooks you see right now that you'd enjoy for 5 years?

I guess you all are aware that our beloved Cr-48's updates are OVER this month, December, 2015!!! Mine is still in excellent shape, physically and it still runs pretty smoothly. I mean that 1 G RAM is apparent at times, especially watching videos. Sometimes new Windows load a little slower than others! But no more updates. I just hope Googke fixed that bug that has caused a problem on the Beta channel (u.e., first letter not showing in forms, some previews not showing, etc)!

Well then, it might just be the right time to install a larger SSD and flash the BIOS to squeeze a few more years out of this thing.

I totally agree, our CR-48's along with being prone to developing arthritis of the hinge...

They had, (2/3 of ours still do) a personalities that the newer ones do not.

I know they are just inanimate objects and that I am just projecting as I wax nostalgic.

Lets take a quick second to Look where the CR-48 was in 2010 compared to where my ACER CB5-311 (last years mid level CB)

We all know the CR-48 specs (The little engine that could, and did!)  My ACER CB5-311 (4GB/32GB) - Dual Band 802.11AC +BT, & 2 USB 3.0 + HDMI OUT (Purchased 10/2014)

Will mine make it to 2019? maybe? if I do not drop it.  

I am willing to bet that at least one, if not two or three, perhaps they all will be

Seems like the magic Memory number for any ChromeBook (excluding the CR-48) is a minimum of 4GB's Ram,

My thoughts are that Standards on the next wave of Newer model CB''s, 

They will have leaner/faster fanless processors, IPS FHD Screens, Backlit Keyboards and USB-C support.

Just saw this.   After my using CR-48 for around 5 years, I let my son borrow it for college with explicit instructions on care and feeding.  He had not used it up until then.  We sent him off to college 3 years ago with a 17 inch laptop, an ASUS netbook and his smart phone.

I told him to use the netbook in classes as it would run all day on a charge.  He loved it except it was a 12 inch model.  Once he got the CR-48 it was a perfect match.  He set up a Google Drive spot and would be able to use it with all his devices.  He has since purchased an iPad (a sin for me).

So he is connected all over the place.  The CR-48 is still in great shape as I have always cared for it.  Google got a lot of benefit from giving me the device ass over time I have sent them multiple papers on improvements in usability and technology guidance.  I  have been looking for a spare battery for it as I think that will be the first thing to go.  I always opened the screen from the center to avoid hinge damage.  I see a lot of folks that have had broken hinges so I warned my son about that and showed him the "best" way to open it.

Going to save this device in the best shape I can for a long time.

i loved it too!  i was so happy when the box showed up at my door...  wooohooo what a fun night that was
