Hi Friends,

I hope you're enjoying your summer, wherever you find yourself.  I just wanted to drop you all a quick line to let you know some of the latest news in my life:

1. Writing:  I'm very excited to be able announce that I'm hard at work on a graphic novel (i.e. novel-length comic book) about At-Tuwani!  As you may remember, it's been a dream of mine to use this media to tell the stories of the people I've lived and worked with for three years.  And I have many of you to thank for the opportunity to do so.  Thanks to you, I've raised all of the money I need to spend the entire month of July writing. I can't tell you how grateful I am for your help!  Those of you who have donated can expect to hear more from me for the next few weeks.  I have high hopes that I can get a first draft done by the end of the month.  I'll keep you updated.

2. Speaking:   After three years in At-Tuwani, I'm embarking on a new sort of adventure - working for a free Palestinian from here in the United States.  I'm currently in Chicago and will be here for at least nine months as I figure out my next steps.  I'm eager to speak about the situation in At-Tuwani and Palestinian nonviolent resistance - so if you're looking for a speaker, let me know!  Send me an email at jub...@gmail.com  And for those of you from the Pacific Northwest, I'm planning a trip home to Portland/Vancouver sometime this summer and I hope to be giving some presentations while I'm there.  Again, updates to follow!

3.  Donations:  Again, I'm overwhelmed by the generosity of the people who've donated to keep me feed and housed while I write this July.  Thank you.  But, like a good activist, now that this project is funded, I'm moving on the next.  A couple of friends of my collegues and I are organizing to bring the head of the At-Tuwani women's cooperative to Italy for a speaking tour.  So, for the few of us who have money buring holes in our pockets, stay tuned for details of how, you can help.

Take care and enjoy the sunshine!

Thank you, as always,
Joy
