Dear Folks:

I have recently wanted to use cpseis again, after having left it dormant for a while.  I thought it was working correctly, but I have problems with the interactive tools.  Cbyt crashes a lot, also va, and when I run va I cannot make a pick for the velocity.  This did work in the past, I am wondering if anyone else has run into this or has a solution?  Thank you.

Lewis, are you up to date on the revision level?  I recall having the va picking issue a couple of years ago but resolved it for my friend by pulling in all the updates and doing a full rebuild.   Also, Seismick has put in several fixes for issues that could be causing the cbyt crash.

No, not up to date as yet.  I will work on fixing that; thank you for that recommendation.

Dear Bill:

I am back up and working again.  I did a lot of things, possibly not all were actually necessary.
I did the following:
1) Fresh install of Ununtu 22.04 LTS (for some reason not able to upgrade from Ubuntu 20.04 LTS)
2) Fresh download and install of latest cpseis.  So far, so good, I was able to open cfe, and open va and pick velocities again.  Cbyt seems more stable also.

Hi Lewis,
Congratulations.
Please prepare a "How to"  for the new users running cpseis under Ubuntu. This will save a lot of time for them.

Dear Tahir et al:

I think either I have become better at this, or the configuration has become easier over time.  I did use gfortran-9 and gcc-9, g++-9, which is not the default under Jammy Jellyfish (default is 11).  There is now an instruction tailored to Ubuntu users as part of the package, and I followed that carefully.  I installed java prior to the cpseis install using openjdk-17.  I first configured Seismic Unix and FreeUSP, getting past those first as low-hanging fruit.  Smoothest install yet.

The requisites you need in Ubuntu (and spinoffs like Mint) are:
build-essentials
gfortran
xterm
csh
openssh-server
subversion
nedit
default-jdk
libmotif-dev
either xorg-dev or libxmu*
If you want to install mpich2, you need python2 as well.

You also need to create some directories
/apps/thirdparty
/home/data/temp
/home/data/scratch

And you need provide 'gmake' command as a symbolic link to make,
or an alias to make in your .bashrc

Then install_cpeis script should go all the way...

Thank you for the how2. New users will get explanation they need.

Nice and tidy.

The installation has become easier with time. It is very much so. We are grateful to Seismick and Bill Menger.

You have gained experience too, that's true as well.
