Two More Ways to Show the
World What You Can Do
1. Kinect Fun Labs Challenge sponsored by Microsoft Studios - Join the Kinect
Effect.
The Imagine Cup 2012 Kinect Fun Labs Challenge asks you to think
about entertainment with a social conscience and brings the Imagine Cup into the living room. This Challenge will test your team’s
ability to build a "gadget" prototype that leverages natural user interface features
such as skeletal tracking, speech
recognition, face recognition, and gestures – all while solving the world’s toughest
problems. You are the controller.
We built Kinect to revolutionize the way you play games and how you experience entertainment.
But along the way, people started using Kinect in new, exciting ways. From games
and entertainment to healthcare and education, amazing people are doing amazing
things with Kinect for Xbox 360. From helping children with autism, to helping doctors
in the operating room, people are taking Kinect beyond games.
For this Challenge, we will provide you with state-of-the-art tools to develop Kinect
Fun Labs style applications on your PC. And… the top 100 Teams that advance to Round 2 will receive a free Kinect sensor!
Get your questions ready! Join Kinect Fun Labs Challenge Captain
Dan on 14 February at 16:00 or 23:30 GMT via Live Meeting and ask him about

Round 1
Create a Team! It can be a team of one, but that isn’t very much fun. Grab up to
three of your smartest friends and challenge yourselves. All teams are required
to complete and submit a Project Plan that describes your team’s gadget, the intent
of your gadget, and details of the unique gadget features and how your
gadget aligns to the
Imagine Cup 2012 Theme - Imagine a world where technology helps
solve the toughest problems. Round 1 submissions are due by 23:59 PM GMT on 06 March
2012.
2. Windows Metro Style App Challenge sponsored by
Microsoft Windows - We’re Bringing the Platform. You Bring the Idea!
“Windows 8” is coming and, with the
Imagine Cup 2012 Windows Metro Style App Challenge, we are asking
students to be at the forefront of those creating Windows 8 applications.
This Challenge will test your Team’s ability to design and build a Metro style Windows
app that takes advantage of Windows 8 features and design principles to deliver
an experience that solves one of the world’s toughest problems and wows not only
us but those across the globe.
Modern computing focuses much more on people and apps than on the operating system
and apps are at the center of the Windows 8 experience. With Windows 8, we’ve created
a new and beautiful Metro style interface, which lets you find the information important
to you, embodies simplicity, and gives you control. We’ve built it for touch from
the ground up to help you do what you want quickly and naturally. Most importantly,
we built Windows 8 to give passionate developers like you a platform to create a
whole new generation of full-screen apps that are based on modern web standards.
We’ve reimagined Windows and we can’t wait to see what you can do with it!
