I highly recommend starting with Programming Principles and Practice. After completing that book I recommend progressing to The C++ Programming Language. Both of these books are written by Bjarne Stroustrup, which needs no introduction.

I went through C++: An Active Learning Approach and really got a lot out of it, so I'd highly recommend it. It was literally built for a college classroom, so lots of good hands-on material to work through.
