Had to go out to Cannon Beach this weekend so I thought optimistically and threw the wing in. Sure enough, Sunday (today) brought clearing skies with only a few light showers. Finished the chores and headed up to check it out.
Took me fully 7 seconds to say "perfect, I'm going to do it".
Since I'd never flown the site before I took the time to stop and chat with the Ranger who was very friendly and even offered to close up the entrance booth to show me the launch. I thanked him for his offer but since the site guide had me pretty well oriented and his descriptions were right in line with my expectations I just hiked down to the launch with my wife.
Pulled up in about 8 to 10 knots of absolutely constant breeze coming straight up launch. Flew in butter smooth air for 48 minutes.
Took a shot at making it to Cannon Beach, but wasn't quite high enough and didn't want to try crossing the point from the lee side without plenty of clearance (didn't have enough altitude to go around it either).
So I just spent the rest of the time boating around enjoying the view and trying to decide where to land. Wind and lift were probably sufficient to take me to it Indian Beach, but I decided to keep it uber safe and just landed below launch.
Doesn't get much better than that.
