Peter D and I both were at Sugar and were among the first pilots who sunk out.  We had to get back to Bend so couldn't parawait for long.  The lift we experienced was punchy, light, and small. Peter landed a mile north of the LZ, and I landed at the LZ.  Most any time you launch, fly, and land safely is good.

Jeff Gray and I went to Sugar Hill today with a forecast for light south wind aloft and good lapse rate to 12000 feet. Wind was light southwest when we got there around noon and the first few pilots who launched sunk out. Eventually Jim Baldo had a good climbout around 2:00 pm, so Jeff and I suited up and got in line and launched closer to 3:00 pm. I had some broken climbs with Tyler Armstrong, then Jeff had a low save over the bailout LZ and climbed to 10700' by himself and started flying toward Lakeview. I finally got a solid climb with Eric Miller up to 10900' and started north 10 minutes after Jeff but big sink over the miles of trees on the first crossing convinced me to turn back. Jeff continued on and landed 12 miles from launch at the Stringer's Orchard wild plum winery. This was Jeff's first cross-country flight and he likes his new wing.

Here's a photo of one of the first pilots launching early yesterday afternoon at Sugar Hill. Is this Peter or Bill?
