Chad and I launched around 3:30 into a mix of thermals and a bit of ridge lift. It got pretty rowdy with bullet thermals for a while but was a lot of fun. Chad stayed a little higher near launch and to the right while I maintained about 2300' out front and to the left.

Then things smoothed out and lift was massive and abundant. Not super high - maybe 2700' where a strong wind shear layer was hanging out and capping things. Even out over town and part way over the river was lifty. Odd for Bingen in my experience.

Then the winds made there arrival. Got pretty parked all the way down to 400'. LZ was mellow though. A couple of people launched later at around 7 and got pinned pretty well I hear.

All in all a really nice 2ish hour flight.

Thanks for the post.  Sounds like a day Rod and I had last year. We went over the town almost to the bridge very slowly.  Once we turned back to the LZ I was hitting 60K at trim.  We were both on bar setting up landing until we got low and had some forward movement.

Couple of us launched at 7PM for a very smooth but full on glass off. We waited until the dark wind lines were above Wells Island. The vertical lift component of the glass off was impressive, I didn't stop going up until very far away from the hill. Full bar almost the entire trip down, LZ smooth.

Both mountains out, gorgeous sunset. Top end of doable, not sure I need those flights in my life and am nagged by the fact that I knew better.
