Hi,

I'm forwarding in case this is of interest to anyone on the CPARN list.  I don't know anything about the workshop except that the folks at NYU's Research Center on Leadership in Action (the organizers) have done excellent action research related to leadership, especially community-based and social change leadership.  Contact them (not me) with questions.

Research Workshop

Collective Leadership Research:
Fruitful Intersections or Parallel Play?

New York City, April 24th (evening) and April 25th (full day) 2014

The idea of collective leadership is starting to take hold.  Under many guises –  “shared”, “distributed,” “constructed,” and “relational” leadership are just a few of the terms in use – a quiet revolution is challenging the traditional notion of a single, heroic individual.  A corollary of this trend, however, is that with multiple conversations taking place, often within their own silos, scholars are "playing" alongside each other but without much interaction. What could we learn if we all engaged in the same discussion?  The purpose of this workshop is to encourage fruitful intersections among our work efforts as opposed to simply engaging in parallel play.    The ultimate goal is to advance a research agenda that is both expansive and interconnected.

The Research Center for Leadership in Action (RCLA) at New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, in partnership with the Leadership Initiative at NYU, invites applications for participation in a research workshop on collective leadership.  Limited to 50 participants, the workshop is aimed at scholars interested in incorporating the collective dimensions of leadership in their own empirical research. Participants will work together to unpack the challenges and opportunities of engaging in research on collective leadership and identify a research agenda that pursues this view of leadership.

NYU/Wagner will cover registration and workshop meals for accepted participants (based on expressed interest). Other expenses (travel, lodging) are responsibility of workshop participants (discount on designated hotels available for participants).

Workshop organizers:

Professors Sonia M. Ospina and Erica Gabrielle Foldy
Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, New York University
Co-Directors, NYU/Wagner Research Center for Leadership in Action (RCLA)
