Hi Everyone!
Nice to find your site. I'm Nita (West Nashville Urban Pioneer). A
cute remodeled cottage on Robertson Avenue is where I keep watch (and
call Metro PD whenever something is amiss) :)
I became a transplant from Bellevue almost 10 years ago realizing the
potential investment explosion of this formerly undervalued (and
unknown area or "unwanted") area. I took a risk. It has paid off
nicely!
I have endured petty thefts, crack houses, loud car stereos, run down
vacant shopping centers, realtors rarely posting signs in the
neighborhood, and prostitutes back in 1999. I became minimally active
with RUN for a time (Robertson-Urbandale-Nations) association and got
to know (minimally) former Councilman Walls in my concern for the
neighborhood.
This area is getting hot due to it's proximity to GH, downtown,
Bellevue, and soaring gas prices. Also Nashville West shopping,
Charlotte Avenue renovations (see the tear down of old strip mall
across street from Walgreens-just down from Jack in the Box-more on
the way, just pay atention on Charlotte Ave to the number of old strip
malls that have vacancies or are "losing lease"-there is a reason for
that), and H20 Cumberland project in the works.
If you want free advice (Dave Ramsey says "advice is worth what you
paid for it") from an urban professional (if anyone needs a licensed
therapist I am one) be active in your community groups, watch out and
get to know your neighbors (it's ok to introduce yourself and even go
across the street to do it-take a risk), keep valuables locked up and
out of site (temptation to the crack addicts) till we clean up the
area, lock your cars (or other motorized transports), put in an alarm
system (NCA on Charlotte Ave will monitor for $9.95/month w/o a
contract), install motion detector exterior lights, adopt a canine
companion, and install a privacy fence. If this doesn't offend anyone
Tennessee law does allow CCW for private citizens w/ appropriate
training.
Anyway thanks for your site. Glad I found you. Nita :)
