I wanted to pass along these 2 tidbits.  Our community could benefit greatly from these 2 programs.  We need to be out front and reaping the benefits!

Metro Receives Grant to Buy & Renovate Foreclosed Homes
We need to get some of this money in our neighborhood to help with foreclosed and/or abandoned houses.  Helps to make our neighborhood more attractive and safer.

"Locally, the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency recently got $4 million as part of President Obama’s stimulus plan. Two million dollars is for buying homes in foreclosure and $900,000 was awarded to the Woodbine Community Organization to help save some apartments. Grant money can be used to buy and renovate foreclosed properties as a way to stabilize neighborhoods and resell the homes at affordable prices."

TVA Energy Project-Free Money for Upgrades to Your House
Also, District 18 (http://www.gogreendistrict18.com/ ) is doing some great things through the TVA Home Energy Evaluation project.  (http://www.tva.gov/ee/in_home_eval.htm)  You can get a energy evaluation for $150 and that money is refunded to you PLUS 50% of the recommended repairs costs (up to $500).  Lowers your energy bills and increases the value of your house.

Dear Councilman Baker,

Nashville has receive $30.5 million in funding, a lot of which will be spent to renovate abandoned and foreclosed homes.  See info and link below.  Couldn't we use some of that money to renovate homes, beautify our surroundings and increase our property values in the Croleywood/Charlotte Park neighborhoods?   Is our area going to benefit from this?  I hope so.

Can you tell us if there are plans to use some of that grant money in our area?  Thanks!

Wendy Monday

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced that the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency, in a consortium established with The Housing Fund, Urban Housing Solutions, the Woodbine Community Organization and Pinnacle Financial Partners, has been awarded nearly $30.5 million in new funding. Nashville was the only Tennessee city to receive an award in the highly competitive national program.

The funding will be used for three primary activities:

  • The purchase and rehabilitation of residential properties that have been abandoned or foreclosed.
  • The establishment of a financing mechanism for low- to middle-income homebuyers of foreclosed properties.
  • The redevelopment of vacant properties as housing. A significant component of the groups' efforts will be the development of 140 units of affordable new multi-family rental housing.
