Dear RNO Leader,

I hope this email finds you well. As a trusted community leader, I am writing to share important updates regarding the Denver Clerk & Recorder’s 2026 budget, and several opportunities to support our office.

As you may know, Mayor Johnston’s 2026 budget proposal underfunds our office by $4.5 million which will decimate voter services in Denver. This reduction jeopardizes our election model and disenfranchises voters in both the 2026 primary and general mid-term elections. If passed, we will be required to reduce the number of vote centers and ballot drop boxes, eliminate drive through ballot drop offs and mobile voting coaches, and cut at least 300 on-call election judges. These reductions will result in slower, longer lines at polling centers, and will result in delayed ballot processing and final results.

My office has outlined all of the details regarding the potential budget impacts on the Denver Clerk and Recorder’s website here. I’ve also attached a one-page budget overview.

To support our effort to secure funding needed to adequately conduct 2026 elections, please consider taking the following actions:

  • Sign the petition to stop Denver’s budget cuts.

Join other Denver residents by signing our petition to protect voter access. Consider sharing the petition with your networks.

  • Confirm your support for DCR’s 2026 budget request
Add your name or your organization’s name to the list of community supporters or provide a quote for our website. To confirm your support, simply email us with your consent to be included in the list of supporters and feel welcome to include a quote about the value of fully funding the Denver Clerk and Recorder.
  • Send a letter to Denver City Council.
Submit a letter in support of fully funding the Denver Clerk and Recorder’s 2026 Budget on your organization’s letterhead or as an individual supporter. Additional resources can be found on the DCR website
  • Sign-up for Public Testimony on October 27.
City Council will hear public testimony on Monday, October 27 at 5 pm ahead of a final vote. If you would like to testify, please let me know and my team will sign you up.

Thank you for your time and consideration. If you have any questions, concerns, or other ideas for advocacy on this critical issue, do not hesitate to reach out to me or my team (copied).

In Solidarity,

Hello Denver Clerk & Recorder Paul López,

Thank you for your email. I've done my best to at least share your request with my networks.

Prior to taking any action on my own, could you please explain why you chose not to move forward with Approval Voting when "Modernizing Our Elections" back when the Charter Review Committee convened in the fall of 2020?

I saw no reason not to advance it to the City Council for consideration.

This was the way to really "Modernize Our Elections" & make voters' voices heard.

I look forward to your response.

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson
