Thank you for the update!

Question for you or someone at DOTI...
Looking at the maps, it looks like there are significant closures around City Park, where a number of our Bike Routes connect. What is the plan for detours to those routes?

One thought/suggestion...
Can we adjust the 5K route to loop on Saturday closer to Ferril Lake & extend it to 23rd & York?
This keeps the Garfield St NBW open across 17th to Montview.

However, the more significant issue to me is the Half-Marathon route...

The Red Arrows represent bike routes that are obstructed with no clear way to get around the event. We'll just have to make sure we communicate to people who communicate by bike that they can't get through that area until around 8:30am.

I'll do my best to communicate this to bike commuters in the area. Hopefully, those who need to get to a destination have access to a car or can call a Lyft/Uber.

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Thank you for the reminder!

Just confirming...
Bike access into & through City Park will be obstructed without a detour, correct?

Here are all the mapped routes into the park.

At a minimum, we should be planning detours around the event. We could utilize the shared-use path along York connecting the City Park Esplanade Protected Bikelane to 21st as an example.

There needs to be a similar connection between the Garfield St Neighborhood Bikeway & Garfield. Between Garfield & City Park Esplanade, we could direct riders onto 17th & then down to the sidewalk from Detroit to City Park Esplanade. This would mean detour signs at Steele & 16th informing riders that the route is closed ahead & to turn onto 16th.

Those are just a few examples.

Why can't we preserve some form of bike connections or plan detours for special events?

Seems like a reasonable request that should be a requirement.

Thank you in advance for your help prioritizing Bike connections in Denver!

Bryan Wilson

Thank you for the response, Lonnie.

This doesn't seem very safe for bike commuters, especially families biking with children.

Plus, the few detours I suggested are pretty simple & easy to execute.

We'll have to see if this is something we can change at the City level.

Thank you,

Bryan Wilson

HI Bryan,

Yes, City Park will be shut down for safety reasons all controlled by DPD and the City without a detour.
