Thread with the 311 Ticket where I specifically point out the need for bike thru access & not direct bikes down an alleyway that is typically not maintained. See highlighted exerpts below.

What more needs to be done to make DPR & DOTI both AWARE of an issue to get it on the books?

Do we need to create a new position/department in the City of Denver to supervise the 30,000-foot picture to make sure the details are there?

OK, great thanks.

Other thought...
What if the lower Tennis Courts became the pickelball courts & basketball courts.

Then don't need to worry as much. The basketball & pickelball will be accessible.

Still, having a way to safely bike from Cheesman, to Botanical Gardens, to Congress Park, to the new 9+CO would be great.

9th was designated as a potential Neighborhood Bikeway, so providing through access between those courts would be ideal. If that's coming from another project, then that makes sense.
Would be GREAT to get 9th from Sunken Gardens to Pontiac, just shy of Quebec as a Neighborhood Bikeway Backbone Project.

Just trying to have the most direct bike routes as possible through Denver.

Thanks!
Bryan

Hello Bryan,

In order to provide better access at Congress Park DPR is exploring options to provide ADA sidewalks for the north courts and DOTI is looking to add perimeter sidewalks, but these are not included as part of the pool reconstruction project.  The pool project will not remove the through path north of the pool connecting the courts and the parking lot, it will only straighten it. Access around the pool will remain largely unchanged once the pool project is complete, with the exception of the new ADA compliant route connecting the parking lot to the new pool facility.

Thank you for your email and interest in Congress Park.

Have a great day,

Elizabeth

What about ADA Access to the upper tennis & basketball courts?

I did see the plans and I don't see a way for those to be accessed.

Currently, there are only steps and a path that is far too steep. We are losing this asphalt path I highlighted from Google maps.  If you get anyone out there in a wheelchair, they will not be able to reach those upper courts.

Seems like paved access is needed from the parking lot to the upper courts. My thought is that during construction, we can create a paved multi-use trail from the lot to the existing concrete stairs.

Then when completed, we can connect to 9th on the east side. Third photo highlights a possible route.

This will simultaneously provide ADA access to the upper courts, which the plans don't look to do, and give bikes through access keeping them away from the pool house entrance and playground areas preventing conflicts.

I've looped in Steven Rijo as well as someone to look at this from the Bike Mobility side of things. 9th Ave has been called out in the East Central Area Plan for a potential Neighborhood Bikeway. Seems important that we plan for that potentially increased bike traffic and not force them partly down an alley that doesn't get cleared of snow and ice.

Thanks for your time and consideration!

Bryan Wilson

Hello Bryan and thank you for the inquiry regarding Congress Park sidewalks.

The existing non-compliant sidewalks near the pool building are going to be replaced as part of the pool reconstruction project, providing new ADA compliant access to the facility.

Unfortunately, construction of DPR capital projects may interrupt access and circulation within our parks while the work is underway.  These impacts are temporary for the duration of construction.

Full and improved access will be restored when the project is complete.

Thanks and have a great day,

Elizabeth
