Officer of the Month Nominations are chosen by review of daily, weekly and monthly District 2 Command staff notes, highlighting significant officer interactions on calls for service.  During these reviews, and unsolicited, command staff make note of exceptional police work.  At the end of each month command staff decides to select three officer interactions they feel are most worthy of positive recognition. These are the 3 nominations you see each month, being nominated for officer of the month.

All DPD District 2 community members are encouraged to vote! One vote per household please. To vote, reply to this email (christie...@denvergov.org)  with "Nomination A" or "Nomination B" or "Nomination C".  Please vote for only ONE nomination.  All votes must be received by February 28, 2026 - Thank you for participating!

Nomination A: Officer Andrew James

While conducting directed patrol in an area experiencing repeated trespassing issues, Officer Andrew James quickly identified a subject matching the description from a recent call at a nearby warehouse. Officer James observed the individual actively removing a window screen and manipulating a boarded‑up window in an apparent attempt to gain unlawful entry into the building. Recognizing the criminal activity in progress, Officer James detained the suspect, provided Miranda advisements, and conducted a thorough and professional on‑scene interview. Although the suspect claimed she had permission to enter the property, she was unable to provide any credible information to support her statement. Officer James’ clear observations, decisive action, and effective interview led to the female’s arrest for trespassing, along with the discovery of two outstanding warrants. In addition, he coordinated perimeter positions and ensured no additional suspects were involved, demonstrating strong scene management and officer‑safety awareness.

Nomination B: Officer Brian Morgan and Officer Jayson Franceschini

Officer Brian Morgan and Officer Jayson Franceschini were conducting extra patrol near E Bruce Randolph Ave and N Colorado Blvd when they observed a vehicle with no plates at a gas station. Officers knew from experience that criminals often remove license plates to mask information about the vehicle including if it may be stolen. Officers contacted the suspect who was putting gas into the vehicle. During their investigation, Officer Morgan and Officer Franceschini located a handgun in the back waistband of the suspect. Once in custody, the suspect informed officers that there was a second handgun under the driver’s seat of the vehicle, which was also recovered. Upon further investigation, the vehicle was discovered to be stolen and the suspect was prohibited from possessing a firearm. When officers searched the vehicle further, they located a large quantity of narcotics. The suspect was jailed for appropriate charges. Officer Morgan and Officer Franceschini showed great initiative during this stop and completed a quality investigation that led to the seizure of both narcotics and firearms as well as a recovered stolen motor vehicle.

Nomination C: Sgt. Brandon Cameron

District Two officers were dispatched to the area of E 36th Ave and N Franklin St regarding several Shot Spotter alerts which recorded numerous gun shots. One caller stated that subjects in a black vehicle in the area were picking up the fired shell casings most likely to prevent officers from recovering and linking them to the crime. Upon his arrival, Sgt. Cameron noticed a black vehicle driving the area without the head lights on. Sgt. Cameron attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled from him. A short time later, the vehicle was located in a near-by alley. Once again, the vehicle fled, nearly striking Sgt. Cameron’s vehicle. The suspect crashed his vehicle and fled on foot with Sgt. Cameron following behind. After a short foot chase, the suspect was caught by Sgt, Cameron and found to be in possession of a handgun. While completing the investigation, the owner of the vehicle involved called in to report it stolen from a local hospital. The juvenile suspect was charged with numerous felonies and the handgun recovered was linked to several other crimes in District Two including unlawful discharge.
