Hello,

Please see the linked video.

The shelter for bus stop #13079 was installed in the sidewalk obstructing the Pedestrian Access Route as well as the potential for shared-use bike access.

Please have it relocated from the Pedestrian Access Route.

Chris Nicholson, can you please make sure that RTD, Community Planning and Development, as well as DOTI, are all communicating on these projects?

For example, I'm anticipating a shelter being installed along the South Side of Alameda, which would directly obstruct bike access to and from the South Platte River Trail. It'll probably be installed in the sidewalk path the same as the City Park Golf Course on CO Boulevard at 26th. There likely should have been a concrete slab installed set back behind the sidewalk in all of these installations.

I was sent the information below 👇 when requesting the bus stops be relocated for the 1st Ave Redesign Project & I feel like it's relevant to these issues.
Since there wasn't room for a bus stop bulb in the roadway on these arterials, then the bus stop shelters should have been placed behind the sidewalks exactly as it was across the street for stop #13082 on CO Boulevard at 9th.
Even the shelter a few blocks north at bus stop #13081 is an issue. A concrete bench was installed & then the shelter taking up about 5 feet in front of it. (This will be a separate request.)

Requesting that this sidewalk installation be treated the same as the 10-ft wide Trail installation at Broadway and I-25, & obstructions removed from it.

It is also my understanding based on the Denver move's bikes update that Colorado Boulevard has shared use sidewalks as the recommended facility type.

That alone seems like enough justification to ensure that we are installing 10-ft wide sidewalks along CO Boulevard & other arterial roadways without placing any obstructions within that 10 ft space.

Thank you in advance for addressing this issue, and preventing future issues from occurring.

Respectfully,
Bryan Wilson

Hi Bryan,

As a project team, we focus on more traditional outreach channels, but we would appreciate it if you could post the flyer on the Sub-Reddit account.

I did circle up with the project team and here are a few minor updates regarding your previous question:
  • When funding is available to relocate and reconstruct bus stops, DOTI and RTD follow NACTO guide for best practices on bus stop placement.
    • NB RT volumes will need to be collected. High RT volumes can produce an unsafe condition for nearside bus stops
  • The Denver Sidewalk Program has identified sidewalk improvements for Country Club neighborhood: N Downing St, Speer Blvd to E. 3rd Ave (east side). This will provide much needed connectivity to the existing bus stop location.

Thanks,
Emily

What about the announcement invite on Reddit?

I can give either of you access to do by sending me your username or just requesting to post in the Sub-Reddit.

Thank you for the invitation!

Any update on the North bound Downing RTD stop being included & relocated?
If I'm not mistaken, that will be the only one of the four at that intersection that won't be upgraded.
If possible, could it maybe be relocated to the South of 1st and the slip lane get eliminated?

Thanks in advance!

Bryan Wilson

PS: I think it would be good if someone could post the info in https://www.reddit.com/r/DenSoutheastCentral/ or  https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionZeroDenver/ & then we could cross-post to relevant subreddits.
