Officer of the Month Nominations are chosen by review of daily, weekly and monthly District 2 Command staff notes, highlighting significant officer interactions on calls for service.  During these reviews, and unsolicited, command staff make note of exceptional police work.  At the end of each month command staff decides to select three officer interactions they feel are most worthy of positive recognition. These are the 3 nominations you see each month, being nominated for officer of the month.
All DPD District 2 community members are encouraged to vote! One vote per household please. To vote, reply to this email (christie...@denvergov.org)  with "Nomination A" or "Nomination B" or "Nomination C".  Please vote for only ONE nomination.  All votes must be received by June 30, 2026 - Thank you for participating!

Nomination A: Corporal Ambrose Slaughter
Officers responded to the 4700 block of N St. Paul St on a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they learned that the suspect and victim were at a party together. The two went outside and began fighting. During the fight, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the abdomen, cutting his arm causing a large laceration. The suspect fled the location and officers on scene obtained his information and last known address of residency. Cpl. Slaughter began to search the area and approximately 20 minutes after the call first aired, he observed a possible suspect in the 4800 N Colorado Blvd. Cpl. Slaughter exited his police car and contacted the suspect from a distance asking him his name. When the suspect gave his name, it matched the suspect’s name given on scene. Cpl. Slaughter then aired out for emergent cover. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident due to Cpl. Slaughter’s quick action and command presence. The suspect was charged with First degree assault w/ a deadly weapon, resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

Nomination B: Officer Dane Aloise-Henderson
Officers responded to the 1300 block of N Yosemite St for an attempt to locate a female suspect who was wanted on a Felony warrant. The warrant indicated that the suspect was armed with a handgun and had previously committed felony menacing against the victim. Upon arrival, Acting Cpl. Aloise Henderson was the first to make visual contact with the suspect. Acting Cpl. Aloise Henderson observed the suspect move toward an unknown object, pick it up, and made statements suggesting she possessed the same type of weapon officers were carrying, insinuating she had a firearm. Acting Cpl. Aloise Henderson maintained continuous visual observation while updating responding officers, which allowed them to safely position themselves and begin issuing commands. Officers approached using a ballistic shield for safe cover. A plan was developed to use a less lethal option (Taser) to create a window for officers to safely move in and prevent the suspect from presenting the alleged weapon. The suspect eventually gave up and surrendered to officers. It was later found that the suspect had been holding a gun box which contained a BB gun that closely resembled a real firearm. Acting Cpl. Aloise Henderson’s foresight in maintaining continuous observation, challenging the suspect, and preventing her from removing the BB gun from the box likely stopped her from escalating the situation. His actions prevented the suspect from fully contemplating whether to present the weapon toward officers, which in turn prevented a potential officer involved shooting and contributed directly to the suspect being taken safely into custody.

Nomination C: Detectives Lozano, Tann, and Torrez
Between November 2025 and May 2026, Precinct 211 had been plagued with a serial porch pirate thief. Although most of the 11 thefts were captured on surveillance video, Detectives Lozano, Tann, and Torrez had only a few clear still shots to work from when trying to identify the male suspect and, at times, his female accomplice. The detectives began sharing information and eventually developed a possible location for the male suspect. On 05/12/26, Detectives Torrez and Tann responded to an address in Precinct 211 to conduct surveillance. Shortly after arriving, they observed a male they immediately recognized as the serial thief and confirmed the associated address. They coordinated with Officer Andrew James, approached the residence, saw the suspect inside, and took him into custody. Officer James contacted multiple occupants by phone and convinced them to exit the home so it could be secured for a search warrant. One of the occupants who came out was identified as the female suspect involved in several of the thefts. Detective Lozano drafted a search warrant, and all three detectives, along with Detective Joe Stewart, executed it and recovered evidence linking the suspect to an additional theft. Detective Lozano organized the case filing, resulting in the male suspect being charged with felony theft for 11 thefts and the female being charged with misdemeanor theft for three thefts. This investigation not only resolved a months long crime pattern and improved community safety but also showcased the detectives’ strong investigative skill in developing solid leads despite having limited initial information.
