December Coffee & Conversation

Thursday, December 4th at Tattered Cover Book Store!

I'd love to see you at next month's Coffee and Conversation on Wednesday, December 4 from 12pm to 2 p.m. at Tattered Cover Book Store. We'll be meeting at their Colfax location, 2526 East Colfax Avenue. These monthly gatherings are a great opportunity for us to connect in person, chat about what's happening in your neighborhood or across the city, and just catch up. I hope you'll stop by and say hello!

Tattered Cover's Colfax location offers a cozy atmosphere with plenty of space to browse, read, and relax. Their in-house café serves delicious coffee, tea, and light bites — perfect for fueling a good conversation. You can learn more about the bookstore and its café here.

We're asking attendees to submit questions in advance. This helps us make the most of our time together and ensures everyone's voice has a chance to be heard.

This session will begin by addressing the questions submitted ahead of time, and we'll then open the floor for live conversation. We recommend submitting in advance to ensure your question gets answered. Submit your question below to help shape the conversation, and I hope to see you there!

HOUSING
Plan for a new apartment development in

More housing coming to District 10!

Construction is now underway on The Parson at 909 Cherokee Street in the Golden Triangle. The development will include 309 apartments — from studios up to three-bedroom units — as well as about 4,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Scheduled to open in 2026, The Parson will bring a significant number of new residents to this central neighborhood, supporting local businesses and boosting urban density. With its central location, designer finishes, and modern amenities, it's shaping up to be a major addition to Denver's city center.

A new vision for Downtown Denver!

Denver City Council has unanimously approved a new 20-year Downtown Denver Area Plan, the first major update since 2007, and I'm proud to be a Council sponsor. The plan lays out a comprehensive vision for transforming downtown into a vibrant, livable, and welcoming neighborhood. With office vacancies at historic highs and many storefronts still struggling, the strategy focuses on converting unused office space into housing, creative workspaces, and innovation hubs. It also emphasizes shifting downtown from a central business district to a central neighborhood district, boosting the residential population through more homes, including affordable options, and improving public spaces so they feel safe, active, and people-centered.

The plan highlights the need for more art, cultural experiences, play spaces, and multi-generational gathering areas to ensure downtown serves both residents and visitors. As the elected representative for District 10, I fully support these plans. Strengthening downtown strengthens our entire city, and this vision will help create a thriving, inclusive, and connected urban core where people can live, work, and enjoy Denver's unique energy.

Government Shutdown has Ended!

SNAP benefits and governmental operations are coming back online, but it's a large roll-out process, and some folks may not have SNAP or other benefits until Thanksgiving week. Some Federal offices and other benefits may take a little longer. Understand that many of these sources may be experiencing shortages themselves so call in advance to confirm food is available.

20-minute walk, roll, or ride vision

Priorities & Values

District 10’s north star is a 20-minute neighborhood—where daily needs are a short walk, roll, or ride away. With City Council’s approval of the Downtown Area Plan and in the long range planning phase for the 5280 Trail, which received funding for its first fully-built segment in 2021, Denver will meet the needs of its residents, and those who come here for work, play … or even if they’re just passing through.

Councilmember Hinds’ work centers on three pillars: Housing that keeps neighbors in the city they love; Transportation that is safe, reliable, and accessible; and Representation that ensures every voice is heard.

From zoning updates that add homes to transit projects that boost access, our approach is pragmatic and people-first. Explore priorities, track legislation, and find upcoming Coffee & Conversation dates on the District 10 website, and while you’re at it, invite your neighbors neighbor to subscribe to this newsletter, too.
