There have not been many announcements about the Cozy desktop file sync client, so I don't know how far it has already developed. But I was thinking today...

Canonical decided a little while ago not to compete with other large corporations in the file sharing market, and so decided to close down the Ubuntu One service. But the source code for Ubuntu One is still around. I imagine the Ubuntu One servers were configured in a very different way from Cozy servers, but still I wonder if it might be valuable to look at how the Ubuntu One desktop client worked. Perhaps some of the code could be reused? Or maybe it would just offer an interesting perspective of how to build a desktop file sync client? When I used Ubuntu One, one thing I thought was interesting was that you didn't have to store all your data in a single folder; you could pick directories in the local system, and the Ubuntu One client would synchronize them.

It's just a thought that occurred to me, so I thought I'd share. What do the rest of you think?

Hi Terry,

About file clients, Romain published an Android one on the Playstore, it's called cozy-files. Let us know what you think about it.
About the Linux/OSX client, we are still working on it but things are more complex than expected. SInce we are very busy with the mail apps and the platform maintenance, we didn't focus much on it. But soon, we'll have a developer full time working on it. If you want to contribute we'll be glad to introduce you to what we are working on.

The client is written with Python and the repository is here :

Thank you for your Ubuntu One suggestion, we'll have a look at it. We need to dig deeper in the technologies involved to see what we could reuse.

Regards,

Frank
