Hey guys,

It seems like everyone is available today (Thursday 04/08/11) at
21:00 (GMT +1) . The meeting will be on skype. I would facilitate but
I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the whole meeting!

Can someone please volunteer to facilitate and minute? I'll send the
Agenda round later on in the day.

:)

Hi Fatima and All,

I believe that Ebrima has already set up a platform for us to meet on. We just need to follow the following link when the meeting time arrives: http://ietherpad.com/powg2011

Kind regards

Hi Alex,

We've used that platform before, and early on in the COY meeting we decided that the chat space on ietherpad wasn't great, so what we did was have both the skype chat and the ietherpad open. So the person minuting used the ietherpad and asked everyone to contribute if and when they needed it. But you guys can have this discussion at the beginning of the meeting and do what feels best!

:( Sorry LJ !

Hi Fatima,

Alright, I unfortunately cannot get access to Skype on such short notice, so attached is an update from my side. I will join in on Etherpad, but just in case most happens on Skype I thought I'd send this update through.

The agenda so far is :

Agenda
1) Introductions
2) Updates
3) Climate Change Ambassadors
4) Documentation (Alex)
5)AOB

* I added the Climate Change Ambassadors, but right now it looks
unlikely that I'll be at the meeting. A few meetings ago we discussed
partnering with Debra and Jo and training few young people ahead of
the conference. What are our thoughts on this now? And what steps
should we take now?

Hi Alex, Fatima and all
thank you for the update. The issues of document and application form is very important. About website, normally COY  is featured at YOUNGO website ( Youthclimate.org). I was aware that is under reconstruction. But either way, its important we have website where we can showcase COY and other youth components in the run up to COP or COY 7.  I m not sure, but i think probably the online WG ar doing some thing on that. If not we can ring the alarm bell for them to start doing some thing.
@ Fatim: though i am not sure if preparing application form for COY is part  of our madate as POWG or that of the online WG, but i will suggest we include it as part of the agenda. Also, did you put yourself to facilate this meeting? if this case, we still need another volunteer to tak note. I am not sure i will able to do it this time because i may not be staying for whole duration of the meeting. Also, its important to engage others to make them take more ownership of the process.

Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeers.

Hey guys,

I'm not sure how the meeting went, I did mention that I might not be
able to make it - and I didn't.

I think Alex and Ebrima raised some important points. Myself and
Hilary will be meeting with Kyle to make some sort of make shift
Online WG. We hope to have some sort of web page going in the near
future.

I would suggest that you fill out the Whole COY meeting doodle, and
try to attend so that you raise these issues to the whole group. If
you can't make it, I'm happy to share your document with everyone.

Fatima

P.S

I've checked the etherpad, and there isn't any minutes... I'm hoping
there was a meeting??

Hi Fatima,

To tell the truth, I don't think a meeting happened last night. I went on to EtherPad and only Karolina was there. However, perhaps the meeting took place on Skype, but I haven't heard anything about it yet. This is quite disappointing, but alas, let's hope we can get better attendance at the next meeting.

ok, this sucks, but on a different thread I did suggested today at 15 GMT but i forgot to post it on the general group. It was the time that had the most people attending on the doodle. Is this now unrealistic?

Hi All,

Apologies, as mentioned I could not make the meeting time above, but from appearances the meeting didn't happen. Shall we set up another doodle for a meeting, or shall we get everyone to send through a brief report of their POWG related activites, and then someone can compile it for the main working group?

Kind regards
Alex

Great, so should we set up another doodle, this time for a weekly meeting time that doesn't change? I think we should do both a meeting and send through reports. If everyone can have a look at them before we meet I think we might be more productive at the meeting.

I do think we should set up the doodle, and would like to do it myself, but being technologically backwards, I'm not sure how to set up doodles. Thus could someone please point me in the right direction, or set up a doodle for us, please.
Thanks and regards

Hi all,

I've set up a doodle for a weekly meeting. Please visit http://doodle.com/pmuv7f949y77bq55 and fill in the times that suit you. Don't pay any attention to the dates - this doodle is for a weekly meeting, so I just chose a week at random. The times are what you need to be looking at.
Please fill in your times by the end of this week (Friday). Then we'll have a meeting time set up as of next week and we can get right down to it.
I realise that our schedules will change on a week-to-week basis, but in general I think we will be more productive if we have a set meeting time that maybe not everyone will be able to attend all the time, but more people will be able to attend more of the time - to butcher that terribly overused quote ever so slightly... :-P

Many thanks,
Ruth

Just went to the doodle poll to fill it in but realized it didnt have the timezone function (or what ever you would call it?). What time zone is the poll sett in? Just so I know I'm filling it out the right way.

Hi,

Sorry about that, I'm a little bit technologically challenged - not sure how to set the timezone function. The poll is set in GMT+2 though. I said I was going to close it on Friday but I have decided to extend that because there has not been much of a response. I think it is important that as many people as possible fill in the doodle, particularly if this meeting time is to stand for every week. So I will give everyone the weekend to do so, and close the poll on Monday. Please fill it in if you have not done so already!

Many thanks,
Ruth

Hi all,

There weren't many responses, but as promised I have closed the poll. The most popular times were Sunday or Monday at 22:00. I want to propose that we make our weekly meetings every Monday at 22:00. It's obviously too late to have one tonight, but if there are no objections we can start next week Monday.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to remind everyone that there's going to be a meeting at 22h00 GMT +2 tomorrow night (Monday). I wasn't at the last meeting so I'm unsure about what needs to go on the agends, but these are the points I suggest:

1. Updates
2. Climate Ambassadors (I'm not sure where we are with this idea, but perhaps we could discuss it further.)
3. Useful contacts and connections (This is just something I thought we should look into.)

As I said though, I wasn't at the last meeting. Not sure what was discussed there and what we need to follow up on. Could everyone please add to this list what they think is important so that we can ocnstruct a proper agenda?
Also, I can chair the meeting if you like but the fact that I wasn't at the last meeting means that I'm not sure how well I would be able to do this. Would anyone else be willing to step in? And then we'd need someone to do minutes - though that migfht not be necessary with ietherpad?
Anyway, just let me know what you guys think.

I just want to add two items to the agenda, but before I do so I just want to check that we have a decided platform upon which to meet. If we are meeting on etherpad, is there a link that we can connect to?
The agenda items I would like to cover are:
1) Regional Coverage
2) DEA Poster Competition
Thanks for the reminder Ruth.

Hi all,

Perhaps we could use Etherpad again for the meeting tomorrow. The link http://ietherpad.com/powg2011 will send you to the notes from last time's meeting, but then maybe we can just add onto them. Might be a good idea to have all to notes together on one Etherpad - plus I'm not sure how to open another one. What does everyone think of this idea?
Thanks for the agenda items, Alex. I've added them onto a list at the Etherpad, and will add anything else anyone sends me before tomorrow.
Hope to speak to you all tomorrow at the meeting!

Hey,

As i mentioned before I'll be missing this one too but I have two agenda points.

First - Hilary and a few others put an outreach document together, i think it would be best if you all went over it and gave some feedback, since the outreach team is the wg that will be using it the most. I've attached it.

Second - as we are getting closer to COY7, we are going to start recruiting volunteers soon as well as letting other young people know so that they can attend. What role do we see ourselves playing in recruitment?

Anyhoo have fun @ the meeting but not too much fun without me! :)

Hi,

Dont know how often people check their emails, but it would be nice to know who will make it to the meeting tonight. If we are too few, or if its just Ruth, Alex and me again, I would suggest its better to wait with having the meeting til next week. I also have a lot of other things on my plate and thus I would prefer having meetings with as many as possible attending to make it as productive as possible. (not saying that our meeting last week were not productive though!)

What do you say?

Hey,

I don't mind rescheduling, the current time is slightly late, and on a weeknight. But it works for me, and as it seems like it is working for Fatima too now, maybe we should stick with it for awhile and see how the attendace looks?

Regards
Karolina

Hi All,

I am also happy to keep it the meeting at the same time, if everyone else is. Can those for whom the time is inconvenient please indicate so.

Thanks and regards
Alex

Hi,

Thanks for following up on this, everyone. Alex, you aked whether we could use the previous doodle poll if we're rescheduling: we can, but i think only about three people actually entered their times into the poll. That's why I was going to suggest another one. But if everyone is alright with the current meeting time, that's fine by me. I'm on the Student Representative Council here at Rhodes now, and we meet at 18:00 GMT +2 on Mondays, but I'm sure we'll be done by 22:00.
So as Alex said, could anyone who can't make that time let us know?

Many thanks,
Ruth

Hey,
I never filled out the last doodle poll, but if it's possible, I can happily do that agin so we can find a time that suits more of us. The current time works for me, but is not optimal as it is slightly late on a school night.

Regards
Karolina

Hi all,

Not sure if my last message went through, can't see it on the thread. I just said that we can use the last doodle to find another time, but not many people added their times to that. I think there were only three entries or something. That's why I suggested doing it again. But it's a bit late to change the meeting time for this week, so why don't we discuss this at the meeting tomorrow?
Speaking of which, does anyone have agenda points for tomorrow? We can meet on the same platform: http://ietherpad.com/powg2011.  Also, are there any volunteers to chair/minute?

Hope you've all had a good weekend,
Ruth

Hi Folks,

Although I will try my best to be at the meeting, I will be away at a conference and may not be able to get internet access. One particular point is that on the 12th of September I will be meeting with the Deputy Minister of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) who are the ones chairing COP. If there is anything in particular that anyone thinks should be raised, please do let me know.

Thanks and regards
Alex

That's brilliant Alex, about the meeting! I'll think about any issues - I'm sure you're already going to be mentioning the things connected to the issues we're dealing with on SEACC: the carbon tax troubles, for example. But will think of others, and I'm sure we'll be able to discuss the point at the meeting and get back to you. What exactly is the purpose of the meeting, just so we know roughly what we're dealing with?

Kind regards,
Ruth

Apologies, to clarify, the purpose of the meeting is to engage with stakeholders in COP 17 in order to ensure proper representation and involvement in COP.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,

I'll be there tonight! And there are some new people that have joined us as part of a Durban team, I'll invite them too! Would be great if we could talk a little bit more about the climate ambassadors and what we want them to be, what we want our role to be, how we want to find them and use them...Meeting Jo Boulle tomorrow so would be great if I had an idea with me that I know that you support!

See you later!

Hi all,

We had a very productive meeting tonight - you can catch up on the minutes on http://ietherpad.com/powg2011. It's a pity there weren't more people there, but interestingly a new person joined us - Jabu from Karolina's Durban group. We decided that we were going to have fortnightly meetings until the 17th of October, and thereafter we would switch to weekly meetings. This means that the next meeting will be on the 19th of September at 22h00 +2.

Hope to see you all there,
Ruth

Hi all,

Just wanted to remind you all about the meeting on Monday, 22:00 GMT
+2. It'll be on Etherpad again - http://ietherpad.com/powg2011. Could
everyone please send in agenda items that they suggest? These are the
one's I can think of:

1. Updates
2. Climate Ambassadors
3. Rio +20 NGO group (This is something I found that I thought might
be useful - feel free to look at it before the meeting on
http://rioplus20ngo.ning.com/.)
4. Plant-for-the-Planet and making COY carbon positive (in terms of
how we might be able to use this campaign to create partnerships -
perhaps Kjell would like to comment on this in the meeting?)

Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to add,
and also if you would like to chair/minute.

Many thanks,
Ruth

I think it is important that as many people as possible fill in the doodle, particularly if this meeting time is to stand for every week. So I will give everyone the weekend to do so, and close the poll on Monday. Please fill it in if you have not done so already!

Hi,

I'd like us to revisit our objectives and discus where outreach fits in, in COY's overall objectives. If you look at the thread about the programme on the COY google group a few members expressed their opinions that YOUNGO kind of comes before outreach. I have a few issues with this but I just wanted to have a chance to discuss it with you guys!

Thanks Fatima! Have added it to the agenda. Anyone else want to add anything?

Kind regards,
Ruth

Hi guys,

I'm stuck on the tube. I don't think I'm gonna get home on time as
there seems to be some sort of signal failure! (That's the london tube
for ya!) Please still discuss the agenda point and if you need to
clarify something email me and I'll try and reply from my phone as
long as I'm over ground! Sorry! X

Hi all,

We had a few technical difficulties at our fortnightly meeting this evening - what with Fatima being caught on the tube and Karolina and Alex losing internet contact, at the end it was just Chris and I. Because of this, we decided to defer the last points on the agenda to next meeting, and to have this meeting next week (26/9) rather than in two weeks time.
Please let me know if anyone has a problem with this. Also, if you could start to send agenda items through, that would be great. :-)

Kind regards,
Ruth

Sorry about that guys, I didn't think it'd take me so long to get home!

It's a great idea to have our meeting next week and hopefully things will work out better. I'm going to try my best to attend but considering next Monday is the first week of freshers - and I'm not sure what Internet arrangements I'll have - I can't guarantee I'll be there!

Keep up the awesome work!

Hi all,

I'm trying to get onto etherpad but can't. Could any of you perhaps send me the link that's working for you now? That might work.

Thanks,
Ruth

Has anyone being trying to get online? I've just checked it out, and Etherpad has apparently closed down. Were we using Etherpad or iEtherpad? Apparently they're two separate sites.

Thanks,
Ruth

Hi Everyone,

Apologies for being absent from conversations and the meeting (if it
did take place), but I was away at a beautiful but remote university
and didn't really have access to the internet. Does anyone know if the
meeting took place, and if so whether there were any updates or
minutes from it?

All the best
Alex

it, it didn't! Fingers crossed I should have the internet sorted by

Hi all,

As far as I know, the meeting didn't take place. Divine and I were trying to get onto Etherpad at the meeting time, but apparently Etherpad has been shut down. Bit of a problem, as all our notes are on there. Not sure though, so could everyone please try and get onto Etherpad and let me know if they can? The information I found told me that Etherpad had closed down but not iEtherpad. I'm not sure which one we were using. In any case, I think we might have to go back to Skype for our meetings - unless anyone has a better idea?

Kind regards,
Ruth

Hi Everyone,

I'm not entirely certain what the issue was with Etherpad, but I have
managed to track down our conversation on Etherpad, and we can
continue to utilise the platform it seems. You can visit it at the
following link: http://ietherpad.com/powg2011

All the best

Hi all,

Thanks for sorting that out, Alex! Very odd, not sure why I was unable to get on before. Anyway, this Etherpad confusion seems to have thrown our meetings off somewhat. I don't think there will be a meeting tonight, as we hadn't planned for one, but I just wanted to make it known that I am online and will be online for several hours more, so if anyone would like to discuss ideas drop me an email and then maybe we can switch to Etherpad.
Otherwise, I would like to suggest that we have a meeting next week on Monday at 22:00 +2 on Etherpad. There is an agenda from last week that was set up but not executed because of the Etherpad problems, so I would like to suggest that we use that as a basis for our next meeting. However, please send through agenda items if you have any! Also let us know if you would like to chair/minute.

Kind regards,
Ruth

I won't be meeting tonight, but think it is a good idea to meet next
week as Ruth has suggested. I hope to see you all then.

Hi all,

Sorry for being absent lately. Seems like my Durban WG have taken my focus away from the Global WG. But I guess the work we do will benefit all! It seems like we finaly have our Climate Change Ambassadors too!! However with some uncertainty concerning accreditation...

Will "see" you next Monday

Cheers

I'm really sorry, but something personal has come up that makes it hard for me to attend the meeting tonight. I will try to email my updates to Fatima tomorrow tho, so you at least can see the news from my side. Once again, really sorry. Hope you have a great meeting.

So are myself and Ruth. Strange indeed. Alas, I'm not sure what we should do now. It seems like the meeting might be a dud, as myself and Ruth are both from Grahamstown, so there is not point in us meeting online. It seems another delay as well as rethinking of POWG might be in order.
