to COY 7 FUNDRAISING WG
Hi all,
I put together some information from the documents Lucy sent us and
added some points to create the first idea of how our standard request
for potential sponsors should be.
I want to know what you think about this, if you think we should add
other points or remove/modify some.
We definately need last year budget in order to give our partners the
idea of how much they would have to contribute.
Anyway, as I said, it's just a first draft =)
Regards,
Federico
7th CONFERENCE OF YOUTH
DURBAN, 25-27 NOVEMBER 2011
> COY
From november 25th to 27th, there will be the 7th edition of the
“Conference of Youth” (COY), that this year will take place in Durban
(South Africa). For several years, members of The International Youth
Climate Movement (IYCM) have converged in the days prior to the annual
UNFCCC COP negotiations for the conference of youth.
Each coy brings together hundreds of young leaders for a three-day
conference focused on capacity-building, skill-shares and campaign
collaboration. It is run by members of the international youth climate
movement.
> OBJECTIVES
The objectives of COY7 include:
• bringing together a diverse group of youth climate activists, with
representation from both the global north and global south.
• capacity-building and skill-sharing between participants and
organisations.
• planning youth activities and campaigns for cop17.
• long-term strategic planning for the international youth climate
movement.
The organisation expects to receive at least 500 people at COY 7.
The venue where the activites will take place at should be the Durban
University of Technology.
The programme wasn’t written down yet, but it will include several
workshops holded by youth members and guest speakers.
> ABOUT IYCM
Around the world, thousands of young people are working to solve the
climate crisis before it is too late. These regional and national
organisations are connected through an international network – the
International Youth Climate Movement, or IYCM.
A key part of IYCM’s work is facilitating youth engagement with the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. As an official
non-governmental constituency (known as ‘Youngo’) young people have an
ongoing presence within the UNFCCC process.
> COY 7 ORGANIZATION
As being a youth movement, the organization of the conference is up to
the same young people who will attend it. In fact they have been
working since weeks to provide all the necessary, creating different
working groups (WG):
• PARTNERSHIPS AND OUTREACH WORKING GROUP (WG)
• ONLINE WG
• FUNDRAISING WG
• LOGISTICS WG
• PROGRAMME WG
> COY 7 FUNDRAISING
Fundraising is needed to finance the expenses necessary for the
conference to happen. In particular, The organisers of COY7 will need
to fundraise in order to allow the following:
• VENUE HIRE (IF THIS IS NOT PROVIDED THROUGH IN-KIND SUPPORT)
• CATERING DURING COY7
• TRANSPORT TO THE VENUE (IF IT IS NOT EASILY ACCESSED BY PUBLIC
TRANSPORT)
• TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION SCHOLARSHIPS FOR YOUTH TO ATTEND,
ESPECIALLY FROM THE GLOBAL SOUTH
• PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS INCLUDING T-SHIRTS, POSTERS, FLYERS, BANNERS
ETC.
• CONFERENCE MATERIALS INCLUDING PAPER, BADGES, PENS ETC.
> WHY TO BECOME COY PARTNERS
Contributing to finance COY in the points explained before, gives the
following benefits to partners:
• ACKNOWLEDGEMENT ON WEBSITE AND IN MATERIALS
• PROMOTION THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA
• PROMOTION AT COY
• DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIALS AT COY
It is also important to note that given the nature of Youngo as an
organisation, any corporate partners for COY7 would need to be aligned
with Youngo’s core values and principles.
Some of last year sponsors were:
GCCA, Oxfam, British Council, Norwegian Government.
