Which version of Horus works best?

I got my Cowtech scanner about 2 weeks ago.  I started with Horus 0.2rc1 since it was the most recent, but all my scans were horrible.  They looked like random points that only vaguely resembled the object I was scanning.  I installed Horus 0.1.2.4 yesterday and my first scan wasn't terrible.  I think with some fine tuning, it will improve.  Has anyone else had similar experiences?
