I am in process of opening a space in Greensboro NC and wanted to get
some feedback as to the experience of offering half day and hourly
rate for open seating. I have seen some post that many clients use a
space at times only a few hours a day. Thanks Darryl Howard - Space

Darryl

I think there is a market for hourly seating.  However, do keep in mind that if you offer more options in your business model you have to be able to manage it.  Have you given any thought to how you will track your member's actual time usage?

I started a "half day" pass at The Branch here in Seattle and it's
been popular. Basically: pay half to show up after 1pm. This way there
is no need to track hourly usage.

That's a nice simple version of partial day payments. I'm normally not into partial days but I dig the simplicity of this approach.

Hi Darryl,

First let me say that our space is different than most -- by design, we do not provide any dedicated space to our members. When you look at the nature of independent professionals, I think you'll find that an hourly rate is highly desirable to build your membership base.

We would have never grown our community to 109 members in less than 6 months without our hourly model. In fact, not to muddy the waters, our billing system prorates our hourly member's time down to the minute. We use an internally-built active RFID system to track our members utilization within the space.

Please let me know if I can provide you any additional information.

Cheers,

Thanks Mark. My point exactly. Not like I am going to have a large
staff to work with! Army of one...

Thanks Matt. The simplest solution is normally the best as they say.
This is what I will start with. Great input..

Thanks Jeff. I keep telling myself to get up and see your location. I
would like to understand how you are implementing RFID and possible
use for the future. Will plan to get with you soon. Darryl

Hi Jeff,

Just curious -- what RFID system are you using? (Hardware-wise) I'm paying a company to put in an HID based system., but I'm pretty skeptical about the quality just from appearances of the software and what not.

Thanks!

Hi Ian,

Just to clarify, we are using an active RFID system not a passive RFID system. Our active RFID system provides us accurate realtime tracking and location information about our members once they are within our space.

Our system was built internally using several software development engineers from another company I own. However, due to the fact that members forget to bring their RFID tags along with them, we are already planning to develop our next generation system using facial recognition.

Best regards,

Jeff Gunther
