Has anyone in here used the AuthenticateMyWifi
[www.nowiressecurity.com] service to administer authentications on
their wifi network? I'm looking into it. Any good/bad experiences with
it? Thanks in advance. All the best, Toby

We just use your standard WPA2 access password. Curious why you'd go that route vs. just a password.

Would definitely be keen to hear pros and cons too

Open passwords can't dial in specific devices that disrupt/overload the network.  All it takes is a single 2gb file on Dropbox to shutdown your network.

ah interesting point. Guess I'm not sold on making people have specific logins being a better option. I suppose it's a matter of network capability and design too. 2gb ain't nuttin here :) But good point.

Yeah, I can verify that Dropbox is our #1 disruptor here on our network. Installing a router that did QoS/traffic shaping did the trick for us.

Some teams also need a private network, which an open pwd for everyone won't work.
Also, we can create a wifi network just for a few hours for a large event, so that we know we can flush out all the IP addresses the next day without reseting the entire router.
etc etc

FYI, we burned thru 2-3 Airport Extremes, a DLink supposed-commercial-grade router, then finally our Meraki AP.  :-D

ah awesome points Alex and Jerome.

Yeah we've already killed off a few ancillary Airport expresses that were doing small jobs around the network. the event network makes sense.

We're planning to have 2 networks, one for permanent members that will
offer an additional layer of security (and now thanks to Alex, some
traffic shaping as well), and another network for our mobile members
which will have a single password (and no QoS or shaping).

We are planning to use Deskmag's new coworking management software
when it's available, and Ideally I would like to integrate with
something like RADIUS to automagically allow members to create new
passwords, set access times, durations, etc. But, I'm not sure what
kind of integration capabilities we will get.

For now, a cloud authentication service seems to fit the bill for us
but the only one I have found is AuthenticateMyWifi.

Thanks for your thoughts, Toby

Did you manage to crush the Meraki AP, too?

If so, what'd you move up to? If not...well...awesome. :)

I believe Meraki handles the Radius and cloud authentication.

I still use Meraki - phew.

Hi,

Did anyone use cobot? It supports wifi checking using RADIUS plus other useful tools for coworking spaces management - check it at http://cobot.me
