My name is Holly, I'm on the taskforce to launch a new coworking space
in Reading, Pennsylvania (US). Does anyone have any ideas for a
name?

The space is in a sort of bland office building (so it has no real
character of its own to help us think of a name). We may bring in some
funky furniture and local art to make the place a little more
stimulating.

Any name ideas would be appreciated. :-)

Naming is always a difficult thing. I can tell you my suggestions probably won't please you, but let's try:

LandHub?
Co-met?
Cowired?
PinnPoint? (lame I tried to mix Pinpoint with Pennsylvania lol)

I don't know, tell me something about the town, anything special or a particular characteristic?

Thanks and regards,

Good ideas, thanks.

Reading, Pennsylvania is known as "pretzel city" due to pretzel
factories. There are also retail outlet malls. There is a Japanese
pagoda that sits on top of the highest mountain overlooking the city,
which gives me the idea Pagoda Pad or something like that.
:)

I'd play off of pretzel because I just looked up pretzel and it says
"often shaped like a loose knot" which at the end of the day is how
coworking communities act once formed.

PretzelWorks?

(playing off of "Reading" is fun, but lends itself to major mispronounciations (it's prounounced "Redding" not "Reeding")

KnotWorks (kind of sounds like sausage)
KnotWorking (i like this, because coworking is way more fun than
traditional work!)
Knot Spot
Work Knot
Keystone Coworking (PA is the Keystone State)
Something with Station or another train reference in it?

Best of luck with the new space!

the fun part!

I read Reading was known as the Market Square.
If your location is downtown maybe "Cowork Square"

I love the pretzel idea too (trying to think how to modernize into a
logo)

How to moderize a pretzel shape into a logo? Arms crossed clutching a

Holly-
Now that you have a ton of suggestions-pic your favs and send them out
to vote with your community of coworkers. Let them be a part of the
naming process!

I love the pretzel idea!!!
Our name is Mutinerie meaning in French Mutiny (It does not sound
bad)... or maybe Mutineer...or even Mutinear to bring this idea of
nearness and local roots.
We'd be cousin then :)
Have a good weekend

I too love the Pretzel theme; sounds fun and original. And involving
the community is a good idea too

Something else to think about: what kind of space would you like to
create? You mentioned the physical space being boring and
characterless, but what would you like it to look like if you had the
choice? Being aspirational in your name is important in creating a
sustainable community, I think...

Again, not a coworker at present, but have dreams of someday starting one.

However, I have named a few websites and businesses.

The best tips I ever got for naming things were these.

1. It has to mean something.  IBM is a great, well recognized name, but it would suck if it was just starting out.
2. Try to make it memorable.
3. Make it either fairly short, or pack value into it if it has to be long.
4. Try to use recognizable but little used words.

So for a Coworking space in Reading, pronounced redding, not reeding ;)
, where they have a pagoda (but this is little known),
 and are famous for pretzels,
and by the way, they have the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum (every June, and I'll be there this June for the festival) (Look it up, it is SO worth it!!!) (Ride in a bomber, or a barnstormer airplane)

You have some great suggestions, but I would recommend having a name that references the geographical area, and a saying or motto that shows off the values of the place.  So "Reading{PA}Coworking" might not be very cool, but the saying could be something neat (which I am currently too tired to think of right now, sorry).

My $.02  Take it for what it's worth.
Joshua

Deck the Halls CoWorking

Thus plays off your name, speaks of livening up a space which is something yours needs apparently, and still has the eponymous "cowork" term.
