We have just opened our space in New Jersey and have hit our first
major road block. The town we are in has no to very little Verizon
Cell Phone coverage. We had an employee turn down a job we offered her
because she couldn't spend a full day working in a place were she did
not get a cell signal. Non of our members have complained yet,
probably because anyone who lives and works in western Morris County
already knows how bad the Verizon signal is.
I have been trying to correct the problem before a member complains.
I have contacted Verizon every way I could think of. Several times
they told me someone would call me back and no one ever has. I
understand there is some type of mini cell or signal booster but I
have been unable to get more information. Does anyone know who I
should contact at Verizon or anything about the signal booster?
If I could get a strong Verizon signal I think it could be a big
selling point for our space.
Thanks
Jeff

Joshua,
Thank you for coming in today to help with our CoWorking phone
problems. We followed your advice and Verizon is sending a network
extender no charge.
Thanks again,
Jeff.

Hell, I'm pretty close.  At least East Coast Universal.

I live in Hackettstown, NJ, and was at CoworkingLV this morning.  Today I'm at my girlfriend's place in Wilmington, DE, about 40 minutes from Indy Hall, and I'll be here all week.  My "range" is from NYC to Washington, DC.  Ah, the perils (fun) of freelancing.

Jeff, Glad to hear it.  Jeff had a great barter deal (Front desk help for a free membership) worked out, and they couldn't make it work without Verizon connectivity.  Hopefully, you can resurrect that deal!  Good luck!

Awesome space, too!  Beautiful antiques, lots of nooks and crannies to work quietly in, just relaxing and energizing, all at the same time.

In Denver AT&T starts to go downhill, ok it plain sucks, during Rockies home games. We're looking at a few micro cells we can set up and add/remove people as needed when they're there.

It's amazing, you can set your watch by Rockies home games and AT&T service. Full bars, no data.

AT&T has femtocells.  They include 3g connectivity, I believe.  Many femtocells also have a feature where you can register the phones attached to it.  In other words, you can have your co-working people's phones provided 3g service, while the person next to them has no data.

Just a thought.

Yeah that's it exactly. They actually only work for registered phones.

so random passer's-by don't get signal, etc.

Once we get going we're gonna see if we can't swing 1 or 2 from AT&T

You could always use a pre=made wireless->wifi booster (or just a
straight up 3g/4g booster) from sparkfun.com, or go a little more pro
and buy something that turns it into a hotspot. Fonero has a great
model that works with most carriers but there's a new one on the
market for under 20 bucks USD (though it's shipped fro the UK) -
http://www.joiku.com/

Check it out. Just make sure you have the unlimited data plan
first. :P

If it's just indoor cell service you need extended you can get yet
again a cheapo home-made one from boulder's own sparkfun.com or a
professional one like this for $50, works with all carriers -
http://www.sjtelecommunications.com/pho-ant.html

Here's a page full off various ones on newegg ranging from 50 bucks to
500 -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=40000168&IsNodeId=1&Description=booster&name=Cell%20Phone%20Accessories&Order=BESTMATCH

I know the sparkfun version doesn't register with specific phones
until you actually use it... so multipe people can be on their phones
through the repeater at the same time.
