Thanks to all of you who came out to the meeting at Stardust
yesterday, I feel like we were really able to talk through a great
deal of material, sum up with a bunch of ideas, questions, and
concerns for the space.
I'm posting my notes here on the list, so that there can me more
discussion, and I'm hoping Fredda will be able to answer some of our
questions as well.
------
As far as prices go, people are happy with:
- $250 / month
- $175 for 3 days a week
However, we'd like to follow the lead of indy hall and call these
"Memberships". (See here for more info:
http://www.indyhall.org/pricing/). As they've done:
- $25 a day for non-members
- $25/month to join as a member (this gets you 1 free day). $15 each
additional day for members.
- If you sign up for a membership, you will need to use Paypal
recurring subscriptions. So even the $25/month one day a month
membership, you have to sign up for this as a recurring subscription
on PayPal to get it.
- Are $250 level members going to get a permanent desk space if they
want it (like other co-working spaces)?
- M-F 8 AM - 8 PM are the hours right?
- Who is going to be opening the door at 8 AM, and locking the door at 8 PM?
- If a users group is meeting at 7 PM (as most do) and running until
9 PM, is this going to be okay?
- The front door of the building locks at 6 PM, so how will people
get up to the space after 6?
- The elevator needs a keycard to get up after 6 PM, so how will
people get up the elevator?
- If you're running a user group at 7 PM, how are people going to get
up into the building?
- Are any of the people in the space going to have a key? If a full
time member wanted a key, could they get one with an additional
deposit?
- Parking downtown can be purchased $50 / month right?
- We will need an all in one printer the space with a working "copy /
fax / scanner". This is probably important to be up and functioning
by Day 1. Needs to have a sign of some sort "Please use responsibly,
if you need to print more then X pages a day, then please donate a
little cash for ink/paper"
- There should be a mini-fridge for people to use, but should be
limited to just drinks. No food allowed. Maybe a sign on the outside
with "use at your own risk"
- The conference room should be schedulable through a google
calendar. No need for something fancy, a google calendar should be
just fine.
- If there is any way we could move the conference room closer to the
shared space itself, that'd be great. I don't know if this is doable
though.
- There doesn't need to be someone sitting at the front desk that
checks people in and takes money. No one likes the idea of having
someone policing the space. However, there should be something like a
"sign in sheet". A sign in sheet serves a few purposes:
1. Allows you to quickly see how many people are working inside the
space on a given day.
2. Allows you to see who is present.
3. Keeps people somewhat accountable, so they don't take advantage the space.
4. If something gets stolen or broken, we'll have a list of everyone
who was present.
- There should be an IRC or Campfire channel so people can hangout.
- There should be a small set of rules, such as:
"If you're using the shared space and you want to leave stuff (like
pencils, pens, or cheap electronics) it's at your own risk. If we run
out of space, and you're not present, your stuff may be nicely moved."
- We like the idea of only charging $50 the month of November, so
people can try the space for cheap. However, after November comes
December, and people may be hesitant to subscribe at the end of the
year. Do we need another "Package" deal for December? or should we
just jump right in?
