Happy rainy afternoon!
We finally made it to sailing season – although everyone at the club today had their flannels and oilskins on!
Here is the status report:
· The contractor has finished painting the beams and soffits on the clubhouse.
· The picnic tables are still stacked up, but the first able-bodied sailors to arrive at the club on Sunday will start managing that task! (We still have to put the blades back on the ceiling fans – that will be done before Mother Nature turns up the thermostat)
· The lift parties are making GREAT progress. Many lifts are in, and it looks like we are well on the way to having the shoreline cleared of lifts soon. If you have not scheduled a time to float your lift, please do so soon.
· You will notice a number of lifts stored onshore on the ‘East Beach’. This is our temporary holding area for lifts that have been vacated or are for sale.
· There are a number of potholes and trip hazards around the seawall, as well as a couple of loose docks. Dave and I walked the shoreline with the park manager last week, and a plan is in place to resolve these issues. Please be very careful walking so as not to get hurt. If you see something that you think needs fixed, please feel free to drop me a note so I can make certain it is on the list.
· The two boats moored on either side of the laser dock have been relocated. This clears a nice tie-up and launching area for our lasers and board boats. We will add additional seawall boards in this space to protect boats as they tie up along the wall.
· PRC Chair Mark Hardenbergh has convened his PRC committee, and a revised club sailing instruction is being prepared for publication. We will let you know about this sometime in the coming week, as well as post the updates on the web.
What’s left, you ask . . . it’s the practice race scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday April 15. While some of you may have been paying too much attention to the weather forecaster, I would encourage you to make a trip to your sailing club tomorrow and start thinking about the new season. We will be there. All the club’s vessels are in and operational, and weather permitting we will figure out how this racing stuff works all over again!
One final caution – so that you are not surprised . . . the state has not yet been able to install the new wooden piers at the launch ramp. The concrete pier is of course still there – but the wooden piers on either side are still ashore. Park staff are waiting for the portable crane to come up from the southern work crew to install these. That should happen any day. Launching right now is a little slower than normal – two at a time is max – and the next boat can’t launch until the ones in the water have gotten underway.
See you at the lake!
