You are using an out of date browser. On December 1, 2021, New York State will upgrade security protections to our websites and applications. Access to government websites and applications will now require the use of up-to-date and secure web browsers. View a list of supported browsers.

Due to a recent increase in fraudulent text messages, EBT cardholders are reminded to protect their card and PIN information. Learn more about scams targeted at EBT cardholders, how to protect your benefits and where to apply for replacement of stolen benefits.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) issues electronic benefits that can be used like cash to purchase food. SNAP helps low-income working people, senior citizens, the disabled and others feed their families. Eligibility and benefit levels are based on household size, income and other factors.

SNAP benefits are provided through an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, similar to a bank debit card or credit card. If you are eligible, an EBT account is set up for you, and every month your benefits will be deposited right into your account.

Most households applying for SNAP no longer have to pass a savings/resource test in order to get SNAP benefits. This means that the household's assets (stocks, savings and retirement accounts, etc.) are not considered when determining eligibility.

If you already get SNAP benefits in New York State, you can recertify (renew your benefits) without coming into the social services office. Two months prior to the end of the recertification period, you will receive a recertification packet in the mail that includes a SNAP application and a scheduled interview appointment on page 1.

To file a program discrimination complaint, a Complainant should complete a Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form which can be obtained online at: -OASCR%20P-Complaint-Form-0508-0002-508-11-28-17Fax2Mail.pdf, from any USDA office, by calling (833) 620-1071, or by writing a letter addressed to USDA. The letter must contain the complainant's name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to:

For most people, FNS eligibility has limits to the income you and others in your household can receive. Additionally, there are limits on how much money and property ("resources") you can have. You may still qualify if you work part-time, make a little money, or own a home or car.

You can activate your card, select a PIN, check your card balance, view your transaction history or cancel your EBT card by using the cardholder portal at www.ebtEdge.com or through the EBT Edge mobile app available at Google Play or the Apple Store.

For other questions, you can call the NC EBT Call Center at 1-866-719-0141 or use our contact form here. The Call Center is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. It is not open on weekends or holidays.

The FNS benefits are issued on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. FNS recipients use EBT cards to access FNS benefits at any USDA-authorized retailer. Most major grocery stores are USDA-authorized retailers. Questions about lost or stolen cards, changing PIN, or checking balances can be answered by calling 1-888-622-7328.

You are a household of one (1) if you live alone, are experiencing homelessness, or have roommates you do not cook and eat meals with. Each month, Metro riders who are enrolled in LIFE can continue to load 20 free regional rides onto their TAP card. Once all 20 rides have been used, LIFE riders will participate in fare capping, where they will use Stored Value to pay for each ride until they reach the 1-day or 7-day cap.

Yes, unused rides may be rolled over to the following month. A TAP card can hold up to eight of the same products (the 20-ride option is considered a product), including the one currently in use. Once your card is holding eight 20-ride passes, you must either use up an existing 20-ride pass, opt to use your LIFE discount toward a monthly/weekly pass or forgo the monthly discount.

No, if you are unable to utilize your LIFE discount toward a discounted pass or 20-ride pass for any reason during the month, the discount is lost. Only the discount for the current month can be utilized.
