Alread tired this, it will not work when the IMEI is associated with a telephone number that I am not associated with, the telephone number is with OTR using AT&T network. I also talked direct with AT&T support, OTR needs to release the number first, then maybe the AT&T website will work. I cannot do that now, this is our only source of internet, I cannot afford to be disconnected and then find out I am still unable to unlock the MR1100. I am going to purchase another LTE modem as the backup plan, wether i stay with OTR in the long run i do not know, AT&T network is reliable and have had no issue with it. I have no experiance with T-Mobile
I'm not sure what dc-unlocker is, but I found posts elsewhere that it's a group in Lithuania. To use them you have to go through some process of getting "credits", possibly some cyber currency, and whatever you give them is GONE whether they provide you with a successful unlock or not. There are LOTS of posts in various places from angry, frustrated people that WEREN'T successful getting unlocked by dc-unlocker. Others HAVE been successful. I haven't tried to unlock mine yet so I don't know if dc-unlocker is a total scam, a reliable company, or something in between.
Depending on where you bought it, from a retailer, AT&T or one of the companies that sold them as part of fraudulent plans, AT&T may unlock it... But if it's not a legitimate AT&T device it's not going to make a bit of difference whether you use the IME OR the phone number when you try to unlock it at AT&T...
Had a lengthy conversation a couple days ago with one of their people who provided some information about what was actually going on with a bunch of resellers... Dead phone numbers, phone numbers belonging to a phone, IMEIs that have been spoofed... AT&T isn't going to help.
After OTR mobile released the AT&T number associated with my MR1100, approximately 48 hours, the AT&T unlock portal accepted my request to unlock via IME number. Then 48 hours later it was approved and i was sent an unlock code and instructions. Putting in a new sim card shows the modem locked, access the MR1100 admin page gives me the option to enter an unlock code and submit and it was accepted. Unsure if one needs to do so every time the sim is changed or not.
This whole unlock situation has been a monumental pain in the behind for a LOT of people. And having to play games giving crypto-currency to a bunch of foreign hackers and hope they actually provide what you need to make your device usable is repugnant.
In theory, My Nighthawk is unlocked, but since I'm not connected to any network with the Nighthawk right now - I got the T-Mobile Sim from OTRMobile while I was still a member but the repeatedly promised Static IP was never provided and eventually I cancelled and went elsewhere.
Ok done it with cat5 connection. Just have to disable all wrieless drivers otherwise my laptop would pick up the wireless from MF91 and can't proceed to dc-unlocker server. Just remember to re-enable them later.
I am back for more help. My MF91 is now unlocked. It recognises Optus network with Optus mobile broadband sim card installed but it does not connect: My laptop connects to the MF91 but MF91 does not connect with Optus network. No issue when I put the Telstra card back in.
The APN for optus will be different depending what sort of account you have, phone sime use "internet", broadband sims can be "connect" for postpaid or for prepaid it would be "preconnect". But there are some other ones optus use as well.
In the settings page click APN, then add a new profile for Optus and enter in whatever APN your service uses. Save the profile and then you'll have two profiles, the telstra one and your new optus one, so just select which one you need depending which sim you have in at the time.
New owner of ZTE MF91.
I have connected the ZTE (without SIM) via USB cable, and auto installed Pre-paid Telstra Wifi 4G, my internet window opens, and it says "Problem loading page". So I can't seem to connect to the modem. What am I doing wrong?
OK, turned off my landline modem which had an address of 192.168.0.1, was able to connect using the software that was auto-installed from the MF91. NB: was not able to connect on all attempts.
DC-Unlocker was able to find it after that.
Hope this helps someone else later on.
Did not matter if a sim card was there or not.
Just to resurrect an old thread I've just bought the Telstra MF91 modem today. I won't be doing it now but I need to know if it's better to unlock the modem using this method or to call Telstra? And what does Telstra charge to unlock it?
I'm going to Europe in May so if I can slot a Voda SIM into it then I won't need to worry about foreign SIMs for our iPads or prepaid data for our phones. (just for calls only). One SIM will do the lot.
Those cracked versions can be quite old and probably were issued long before that modem was released. Try with the genuine (paid) DC-Unlocker and see if it recognises it. It is listed for the current version V100.1018
Yep, you need to use DC-Unlocker when you have a LAN (internet) connection to your computer PLUS a USB connection (non internet) to the MF91. Turn off the MF91 wifi & also close the MF91 webpage before beginning the unlock operation.
Has anyone tried connecting to Virgin broadband with an unlocked MF91?
When I type in the required APN and profile names (virginbroadband) I am told there is a limit of 14 characters. Can anyone suggest a workaround for this?
SECOND THOUGHTS (maybe good news): You said "required APN and profile names." The exact APN name is critical (and can probably be longer than 14 characters) but not so the profile name. For the profile name you could simply type Virgin, or any thing else that takes your fancy, but apparently with a max of 14 characters.
Quite correct. My own observation is that 1 amp 5V is sufficient for 3G use but the battery is VERY SLOWLY drained if you are transferring bulk data on 4G. My estimation is that it would take about 10 to 12 hours to flatten if there was no letup in your data transfers. If your 4G data transfers are not continuous then a 1 amp supply will keep the battery full.
Installed the Telstra drivers / software (autorun on modem plugin)
Using unauthorised SIM while detecting
Using no SIM while detecting
Using Ethernet internet connection with Wifi Disabled on PC
Using Windows XP
Using Windows 7
Using Windows 8
Running DC-Unlocker as Administrator
Using different computers (2x PCs and a Laptop)
This is the critical one. Turn off wifi, then reboot your computer with only the LAN cable connected. Once booted up, plug in the MF91 via a USB cable (with non-Telstra SIM in it). Allow the Telstra software to load, then close it down via control-alt-delete to make sure it is fully dead.
After rebooting, start the Telstra Manager software, then kill it with control-alt-delete. Even though you kill it, Windows 7/8 will still be aware of the port that it was last connected to. DC-Unlocker should then be able to detect the MF91 without any problems.
It must've found it once the other night I was trying it because under device manager, modems it had the AT port and other com port that I needed, so I specified MF91 modem in dc unlocker, set the ports accordingly and it found it, and I then unlocked it.
After the restart I plugged in the modem and the Telstra software did not start-up. The PC makes the sound of a device connecting then another sound for disconnecting. I tried running the Telstra software manually but nothing happens. I think this is reason why DC Unlocker can not detect the modem.
