If you have a USB stick or a portable USB hard drive plug it into the connector on the right side of the 5000T near the front. Even better, there is another similar connector on the rear of the machine next to, but slightly higher than, the power connector - this may work faster (?). The USB stick should not need an extra connector and any USB hard drive I've ever had comes with a suitable cable.
Be aware that many people have reported that it can take ages for just one recording to be saved
Found out that I can use my network option to transfer recorded programs on to laptop, dvd or usb. I managed to get the full list of recorded programs displayed on my laptop and that was great BUT when I have restarted the laptop and gone back into the network I can see the FVP-5000T DMR device and also FVP-5000T DMS device, but when I click onto them all I get is the properties displayed.

I must be the dumbest user around.

I'm getting there slowly. Have managed to copy a few recorded programs onto a dvd, but they will not play on my dvd player. Do I need to convert the files to a different format?
Thank you for contacting the Roku Community. Unfortunately, Roku Live TV is only available in select regions at this time. As of now, it is not available in the UK. However, we are constantly working to improve our services and expand our offerings in the future. Thank you for your interest in Roku.
Welcome to the Roku Community! We appreciate you looking for an update regarding the availability of Roku Live TV in the UK. As of now, it is still not available in the UK. However, your input is valuable to us as we continuously strive to expand our offerings in the future.
You can't. Much as I love Roku it is extremely annoying that they do not have a live UK channel guide like freeview play. UKtv is useless. This is the last Roku device I will buy unless they solve this issue.
Is this still the case? I've just bought a streaming stick+ too, and was horrified to find no sign of a channel guide; references to finding it through Roku TV are presumably not intended for the UK - in which case, why don't they say?
Any change on this for UK? I'm considering a Roku streaming stick as I like the simplicity of the interface and ease of use. However a major negative of the Roku is it not having a TV Guide for the main freeview type channels like BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. The Virgin Media Stream device has this.
Are there any other useful features that they offer? (i.e. being able to detect if Netflix is running? Notification overlay display? Picture in picture control? anything else I have not event thought of?)
Have tested WebOS, and it works good and is easy to configure.
But, actually many people use a decoder, so you can power on your tv, chose decoder or netflix, chose a defined volume, but not change channel or film because thats made directly on decoder or netflix.
By the way: you can use the component for Android TV notifications with your FireTV stick. It too is Android based, and the app required to display the notifications is also published for Fire devices. So with that you could see for yourself if you like the notifications that are possible.
You either need an antenna so your current box will work, or you need a different box. It seems quite straightforward. You need to work out the cost implications of both, and make a decision as to which you want.
You don't need Freeview. You can watch all of ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 live via their apps, which you can downloadjyst the same as iplayer, Netflix etc. Our TV aerial was damaged years ago but it's not an issue because we can watch any of the terrestrial TV channels live through our (quite old) Smart TV. But, to be honest, most TV is awful so we rarely do - apart from sport.
I don't understand ITV hub. On one TV you can watch live but on the other you can't. You can cast from your phone and either buy a fire stick/Google chrome (about 5 second hand or a bit more new)
My TV that doesn't have itv live is new with free view but no aerial. I will have a look at the pads recommended above
Until Freely comes next year, other than using the BT IP channels (signing upto a BT TV contract and getting the BT TV Pro from BT, or Sky Stream from Sky) you can get live streams of the majority of Freeview channels with the main free catch up apps (Iplayer, Itvx, channel four, my5, uktv, discovery plus (where you can get the free discovery group channels without signing up to a paid contract ) ).
Some of these apps on the BT Pro box, and on several makes of TV, tend to come without the Live capability included. (The BBC iPlayer is a shining exception, as the BBC refuse to offer a cut-down iPlayer without Live).
The best way to get round this is to buy a Roku Stick, Roku Express, or Amazon Firestick, plug it into a spare HDMI input on your TV, and get the live channels from the Apps on those, which always come with the Live option.
