Ive been in the recording industry for 15 years now and in the last two years I decided to slow things down, go back to school to learn other things and focus on raising a family. Prior to that I was recording/mixing full time as a living but I got to a point where it made me sick and I had to take a break. I had a commercial room with a 32 i/o protools HDX rig with a bunch of outboard and summing, very cool hybrid mixing/mastering setup.
Anyway... when I decided to take a brake it didn't make sense to renew my protools HD (now ultimate) perpetual licence and since then Avid has stopped offering reinstatement plan or whatever they call it. I since sold a lot of my gear and HDX rig and prefer not to give Avid any more money at this point so I bought Logic after trying a bunch of different DAWs.
For example I used to move my audio selection range with key command very easily and in Logic I can't find how if its even possible. One use for that would be for example: select an area on Track 01, press key command to trim both ends, move one or many track down, repeat. I would do the same to apply fades, any key commands for fades btw?
What I would recommend is that you post each question that pops up during your normal workflow in a new individual topic. This allows us to keep one discussion based on a single workflow (for example, selecting audio snapping to transients with key commands, or for another topic, apply fades with key commands) on an individual thread, which makes it much easier for anyone to participate and share their own workflow. I find that it's always enriching to all of us to hear how others are doing things, and there are often more than one way to do things.
On top of that, it means you can give each topic a title that describes the topic by summing it up, such as for example "Snap selection to audio transient key commands?". This means any visitor can tell at a glance what that topic is about. It means also that bots know how to index that topic and it will show up when someone googles "snap audio selection to transients logic pro" for example. That's how we can keep this forum organized.
My initial attempt at learning Logic was incredibly frustrating. I thought I'd just open it up and start working and figure it out as I went along. But while you can do just about everything in Logic that you can do in Pro Tools, all software is designed with a distinct point-of-view and I didn't understand that. Instead, I ended up abandoning it for a few years and kept using other DAWs.
What finally worked: rather than trying to immediately correlate Pro Tools' workflows to Logic's, I started from the ground-up and learned how Logic operated by reading the manual (it's really great!), watching a lot of YouTube videos (MusicTechHelpGuy, Why Logic Pro Rules), and reading this forum (also, really great). (Also: this series was a very helpful overview for me: -days-of-Apple-Logic-Pro-X.html)
When I was deciding whether or not to ditch prorools I looked at a bunch of DAW trying to find one that would be pretty much a prorools clone bit I soon realized that if I want protools functionalities I simply need to use protools. If I want to switch DAW I have to accept that workflow will be different and features will be missing.
I think I get it. Main difference being that in protools your selection start and end extend to both extremes of your clip selection, you can apply fades to all of your selected clip at once but you can't trim the begining or end of all selected clips if they don't start and/or end at the same timeline position.
Is a take folder what they call track alternative? If so in protools you can also either see all takes (called playlist in PT) and edit from there or put your chosen take on top and "hide" all other ones.
learn all you can on the Marquee Tool, that,s the equivalent of the smart tool in PT. You can either assign it to your command tool( the tool selected when pressing the Command key) or have it appear when you're in the lower half section of a region/track. So, the opposite of PT. Once you made a selection with the Marquee, you can use a mix of right/left/up/down arrows + shift key to move your selection start or end or up and down. Once the selection is made, you click on it to separate, back space to delete, option+drag to copy. In the local View menu of the Tracks area, you should click the Auto-zoom selected track so the track you're working on is always bigger than the other ones. But you also have an auto-zoom selection key command like in PT.
Remember that you can create your own key commands in Logic. So, you can either mimic what you're used to in PT or create ones that make sense to YOU. As an example, I use / as the Play key command. Why? Because around the / key you have 3 or 4 modifier keys closeby, so I set / for Play, shift+ / as Play From Selection, Alt+ / as Play from previous bar(practical when you have an artist rehearsing) and Command+ / to make the loop section the lenght of the current selection. So, say i have a selection and want to work on that selection, it's Command+ / and / and Logic created the loop lenght from the selection and starts playback. I find it ergonomic to not having to run around the keyboard chasing key commands, everything is closeby..
Good for you. And I agree that the Logic material is a great tool. And that it's better to learn Logic as a new tool for producing music rather than constantly trying to figure out how to "translate" a Pro Tools workflow into Logic, which often proves frustrating.
Hi @Lydia57 , thank you for sharing your post. We've not seen many Hosts discuss about it in the Community. I'll invite our experienced Host members in the Community if they can help me double check here @Joelle43 @Joan2709 if it's correct.
The location it used to be is just right in the listings page where if you have one or more listings you see the links to each of your listings. I use protools but wd stop using protools if needed to have this feature back.
And I see here the date and time of any amendment made to my listing. There is a drop down menu to pick the listing of your choice if you have several. Is this what you are looking for?
When I go to Insights under Menu to see how many potential guests have added my listing to their wish lists and want to see the number of views for a given period, I have noticed that the updates are days behind. For example, for today, my views were last updated by Airbnb on 2nd June. Then on the graph itself, the date shown on the graph is 27th May!! Hardly accurate data I'm sure you'll agree.
As JOELLE mentioned, you can indeed see when an alteration to my listing or introduced a promotion, was made by going to ==>Menu ==>Activity and exhaustingly scrolling thru all types of changes made. If you have a lot of listings this is not a clear way to quickly see which listings you might update to keep them fresh bc they were least recently updated.// The recent summer update as I said eliminated the "date last updated" to the YOUR LISTINGS page which is located at
www.airbnb.com/hosting/listings for each host. Considering what a minimal page this is there is room to add this back here
