If you have VueScan installed on your computer and need to look up your license, you can find them in a file on your computer. You'll need to open these with a plain text editor (or the Registry Editor on Windows). Alternatively, you can use the form above to look up your license using your email address and zip code.

thanks. i've noted from searching previous posts that there are some people keeping archives of vuescan versions - but only for windows. anyone out there have an older version for OS X? Again, a version release between Sep 06 and Sep 07.

while i have no objections to vuescan pro - i'm sure it's a great product - , my needs were quite sufficiently met with the vuescan version i had installed and so would rather not have to shell out extra bucks if i dont have to - besides, i am by no means a pro nor do i have a pro scanner (canon 8400f).

I started (and then aborted) this project several years ago and at that time I traded several emails with Ed Hamrick. He was very nice and very helpful, and actually changed the code in Vuescan to try to fix it, but he was never able to resolve the issue.

Larry, based on what you have described regarding overwriting an existing file (in my opinion) has nothing o do with your large resulting scanned output files. This should be an issue within the source code for checking an existing Folder and file and handle the file naming convention to be proper to use the correct ending of file name so to not overwrite any existing file.

Ed certainly should know if He has programmed the mentioned +1,+2, etc for unique file names in his scanning program. The issue would appear that this area has missing code for a condition that has not been coded in the program. As previously mentioned, if the program includes code for checking to see if there is a duplicate name in the save to area -- and if there is -- then apply basically the same programming logic as currently used in the current File Naming part of the program. Simply, increment the + variable to not duplicate the existing file name.

Today i installed my epson xp-201 printer/scanner to scan some photos. I was able to scan once, but when i want to scan another photo, it never worked again.
When i ran scanimage -L, i saw the scanner just once too, and it never appeared again. I changed the usb cable, and rebooted the system several times with same results.
But, vuescan works perfect. It's so weird...

I have been trying to find a solution for a scanner problem I have for a Canon LIDE 210 which won't work when plugged into a usb3 port but works fine when plugged into a usb2 port on an older machine - using xsane from GIMP. I am going to try to test with vuescan but I wonder if your scanner was connected via a usb3 port? If so it might indicate a corresponding issue to the one that I had. I have seen a Ubuntu posting that vuescan worked where other scanning software didn't so I was interested to see if there is a common underlying cause here?

I tested vuescan today with my Canoscan LIDE 210 - and it works fine when connected to a laptop with USB3 connection, where the scanner jams solid with xsane. This is interesting and seems to indicate a bug in xsane when using USB3. Maybe it is worth putting in a bug report upstream to the sane-devel list.

Having to do this as root is not exactly an ideal solution! However in my case I think that the problems are not yet triaged and there are many reported issues running scanners with usb3 ports on the machine they are connected to, with analogous posts on forums for a number of different linux distributions. I have also more recently been engaged in a developer thread on the xsane dev list and provided diagnostics as best I can, but it is still not clear whether there are issues with the usb code in the kernel, the libusb code or within sane itself. I was able to get at the packet stream whilst the scanner failed using usb debugging and capturing the stream with wireshark. However the developers have not been able to tie down what the problem is so this is ongoing.

I'm getting this error code today when I try to use my Epson scanner (which I used yesterday without a problem.) Image Capture displays the message "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner. (-9923)" I checked the System Report and the scanner is listed on the USB bus, but neither Image Capture nor VueScan see it.

Hi Jossie, thanks for your answer.
What do you mean about not knowing the colour space?
Basically I use ImageJ to compute the transformation. It uses D65 white reference point to normalize XYZ values. The code is written below, where rf, gf and bf are R-G-B values for each pixel in the image.
I used VueScan to generate the ICC profile and apply it to the IT8 target before calculating the color. Should I use Argyll then? What about Lprof or CoCa profiling softwares, would you recommend me those?

First on the router, you must assign a fixed IP to your multifunction printer. Once this is done, you need to open the firewall ports on your PC.Open the terminal and enter the following rule:"sudo ufw allow from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" without the quotes.Where in place of the X you have to put the real IP of your multifunction printer. Now vuescan will work. Then to delete the rule always from terminal type:"sudo ufw delete allow xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
