Countertop Design Trends: Three hot kitchen trends

Move over stainless steel and brushed nickel, copper is quickly
becoming the new hot metal de jour.

This rustic metal can translate into a traditional or contemporary
kitchen depending on the application and design. The metal also is a
biostatic surface, which prevents the growth of bacteria. According to
designers, copper is being used for countertop surfaces, backsplash
accents and oven hoods.

Light it up. From lighted cabinetry with multiple light sources to
underlit countertops, lighting adds drama and is becoming an integral
part of a kitchen design. Pendant-sized and three-light chandeliers
are popular choices for task and accent lighting.

Accent colors. A spice-infused palette of carnelian, flax, russet and
acid green will be some of the hottest hues this season. However, the
color blue is expected to make a strong return. Pantone announced Blue
Iris, a balanced blue-purple, as the color of the year for 2008.
