Solid surface countertops going ‘green’

Being "green" is becoming more and more important in design and
building. To help customers achieve sustainable design goals, DuPont
Corian now offers the Terra Collection, a selection of 25 colors
certified by Scientific Certification Systems. The certification
confirms that the collection meets international standards regarding
environmental claims for pre-consumer recycled materials.

"Sustainable design is more important than ever and is a critical
strategic initiative for DuPont," says Tom Schuler, vice president and
general manager of DuPont Building Innovations. "We have always
utilized pre-consumer waste as part of our standard line in an effort
to help reduce waste and inefficiency, taking an environmentally
responsible approach to the manufacturing process."

The 25 colors are divided into two levels of certification, including
a group of seven colors certified to have at least 13 percent pre-
consumer material and a group of 18 made with a minimum of 6 percent
pre-consumer material. Other characteristics of Corian contributing to
sustainable design include its durability and ability to be easily
renewed and repaired to maintain its original appearance and extend
its life cycle. It can also be removed, re-cut and reinstalled as a
new design or reworked into new applications.
