NeoNazi gang leader Adam is granted parole from prison for participating in a rehabilitation program, where he joins the aggressive Saudi gas station robber Khalid and the kleptomaniac rapist Gunnar. The community is headed by the priest Ivan, who believes firmly and blindly in the goodness of man, and is seemingly oblivious to the ongoing misconduct and aggression of his charges.

Ivan tells Adam to choose a goal for himself to complete his rehabilitation. Trying to mock the priest, Adam chooses the goal of baking an apple pie. Ivan accepts, but stipulates that making the pie includes grooming and harvesting the churchyard apple tree. Adam is loath to complete his task, especially because at first crows attack the apples, and later most of those that remain are eaten by worms. The misanthropic Nazi is especially irritated by Ivan's joyful manner, excessive optimism and extreme forgiveness, and he sets it as his personal goal to break the priest's spirit and crush his faith.

Adam discovers that Ivan's life has been very difficult. Growing up as a victim of child abuse, he has terminal brain cancer, and is the widowed father of a severely disabled child. The cynical village doctor theorizes that Ivan discounts reality and sees all problems as tests from the devil, because his real life would be otherwise nearly impossible to bear. Adam psychologically attacks the priest by quoting the Book of Job, reasoning that it is God who hates the priest, not the devil. Ivan finally breaks down and renounces his faith.

Adam is gleeful at first, but soon realizes that without Ivan's influence, Khalid and Gunnar revert quickly to their criminal habits, and starts realizing the positive impact the priest had made. When several members of Adam's neo-Nazi gang visit the church and confront Khalid for earlier having shot two of their members, Ivan comes out of the church and demands to be allowed to die in peace. A scuffle ensues and the leader of the neo-Nazis accidentally shoots the priest in the eye.

You're at the high school baseball game with your friends, and you see your big brother's friend Justin in the dugout drinking from a water bottle. With every sip he takes, a big bump moves up and down on the front of his neck.

When kids hit puberty, their bodies and minds go through tons of changes. One change that every kid can count on is lots of body parts growing and changing shape. Almost every part gets in on the growing action, including the larynx (say: LAIR-inks).

Another name for the larynx is the voice box, and it's in the throat. The larynx is what gives you your voice, whether you're talking, laughing, whispering, singing, or shouting. You can find your larynx by touching the front of your throat and humming. When you feel vibrations under your fingers, you've found it!

When the larynx grows larger during puberty, it sticks out at the front of the throat. This is what's called an Adam's apple. Everyone's larynx grows during puberty, but a girl's larynx doesn't grow as much as a boy's does. That's why boys have Adam's apples. Most girls don't have Adam's apples, but some do. It's no big deal either way.

But why is it called an Adam's apple? If you think it's called that after the story of the Garden of Eden where Adam ate a piece of the forbidden fruit that got stuck in his throat, you're right. An Adam's apple sometimes looks like a small, rounded apple just under the skin in the front of the throat.

This larger larynx also gives boys deeper voices. Actually, girls' voices get a little bit deeper as their larynxes get larger, too. But because boys' larynxes grow so much more, it makes their voices deeper than girls' voices.

Girls and boys start out with similarly sized thyroid cartilage, but this changes when they hit puberty. The boys' Adam's apples become noticeably bigger and their voices change as their testosterone levels increase.

Unfortunately, the Adam's apple's main purpose may be embarrassing men at the office, during presidential debates, or while lying to their wives. Besides bobbing around when swallowing, the apple can "jump" uncontrollably when you're nervous. Gulp!

The Adam's apple is about the same size in people assigned male at birth (AMAB) and those assigned female at birth (AFAB) until puberty. Once puberty starts, hormones (especially testosterone) in people AMAB may cause their vocal cords to grow bigger than those in people AFAB. The thyroid cartilage may therefore stick out a bit more in people who are AMAB to protect these larger vocal cords.

An obvious Adam's apple is therefore sometimes considered a secondary sex characteristic of males. A secondary sex characteristic is a physical feature that may show up differently based on your sex and that usually becomes obvious at sexual maturity (puberty). However, thyroid cartilage size varies from person to person. Often, people AMAB have larger, more obvious Adam's apples than people AFAB, but not always. For instance, some people AFAB, especially those who are very thin, may have an obvious Adam's apple.

On the outside of your throat, your Adam's apple looks a bit like a small, rounded apple under the skin in the front, and it may stand out a bit. Inside your throat, your thyroid cartilage is made up of two plates that come together to form a V-shaped notch in the center over your vocal cords.

The name "Adam's apple" likely comes from the Judeo-Christian story where Adam ate an apple from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God had forbidden Adam from eating the fruit, so as punishment, God caused the apple to become stuck in Adam's throat.

Some doctors also think that the growth of your vocal cords and Adam's apple at puberty may cause your voice to deepen. This happens in all people, regardless of sex assignment at birth, although there may be more growth in this area in people AMAB. However, no evidence has confirmed this yet.

Having an obvious Adam's apple may cause some people anxiety and distress, as it is popularly thought to be a sign of being male. Therefore, some people may choose to have cosmetic surgery to make their Adam's apple smaller or larger, depending on their personal preferences.

Whilst there are exceptions to most rules, in general you can't develop an Adam's Apple post puberty. To the best of my knowledge genes also play a role, as well as testosterone. (it's possible to have dangly bits and no laryngeal enlargement )

Adam's apple development comes with the thickening of the vocal chords. The prominence varies by genetics though. I'm a baritone who can sometimes push into bass range, and my Adam's apple is not prominent at all. I can find it if I feel for it on my neck, so I know that it's grown significantly, but not enough to visibly stick out.

So so it's not a myth I don't think, it's just not generally something people talk about. Maybe because it's rarer or a lot of cis guys don't have noticeable Adam's apples, nor care for one enough to look into it.

You make me think of my friend. She started taking estrogen at 30, so she has definitely already gone through "male" puberty. Despite exercising her whole life, she doesn't appear to me to have gotten the full effect from "male" puberty, such as not that deep of a voice, and a not prominent Adam's apple. I've been able to see that there is a small thing in her neck, but it's not very noticeable. So unless estrogen can make an Adam's apple recede, it appears to me, cis guys or trans AMAB people who finished "male" puberty still have variation in how they develop. After all, it's a T fueled process. However, this is just my observation and someone AMAB can correct me if I'm wrong.

This might be a bit complicated, but it seems to depend on a few things, including age at starting T, length on T, and genetics. However, T certainly can affect the vocal chord region and Owl's link shares posts about trans men who did grow one.

Another issue is brow ridges. Cis-men normally have these and cis-women generally do not. After puberty, I have not seen T produce these on trans guys. Trans women often have them removed (along with their Adam's apple).

Whoah. @AVEN #1 fan, the thumbnail picture for that video and the title seem to imply that there may be images of genitalia in there. As someone who's genital-repulsed, I'm not going to watch it to find out Do you think you would put that video in a spoiler, and then write something like "CW: Contains images of post-bottom-surgery genitals", or something like that? Just a little warning for anyone who's thinking of watching it. If you're having trouble and don't know how to do the spoilers thing, let me know and I can do it or explain it to you.
