Ah, Berni, knowing that you are President of the Fans of Banco Nacional, I want to compliment you on the excellent work you are doing with their Customer Relations program!!!  Yesterday, I had a chance to see these results in action:  to wit:  Here, in the Pavas area, we have for 2 years been blessed with 3 sucursales of BN in a 2 block area, which many would say is more than necessary.  Last month, BN closed one of these branches, along with its external ATM, with signs that said "as part of our effort to better serve our clients, etc..."  Great start.

The 2nd branch is in Plaza Rohrmoser and is very small, open only during las tardes, 1 pm - 7 pm.  The 3rd branch is across from the US Embassy and is a free standing building with about 7 teller windows.  But, alas, yesterday only 4 were manned (or personned).  One might think that BN would take the functionarios from the now-closed branch (which had been in Plaza Oeste across the street) and place some of them in this branch, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  La jefa/supervisor for this branch has a very nice glassed private office, so she can easily view the traffic flow of clientes, but she was very busy yesterday morning with preparations for what seemed to be a lunchtime fiestita for employees.  She walked back and forth with boxes of food, but paid no attention to the waiting customers.

There were many.  I had arrived about 9 am, but the line outside (not allowed inside due to overcrowding) extended to the street, about 20 distressed souls.  I opted to do other mandados, and returned at 10:30.  I got inside, and dutifully waited my turn, with considerable annoyance looking at the 3 empty teller spaces, and at the very unconcerned manager passing by from time to time.  My turn came after about 25 minutes (and I'm in the old folks preferential side!)  When I completed my banking business, I made a brief suggestion to the teller that she mention to the boss that they really should find more functionarios to man those empty spaces.  She gave me the blankest stare I've ever seen, like I was from Mars.

On my way out, the guard was now faced with another 15 or so people he could not let inside; he was telling them to go to the branch at Paseo Colon (4 km) for faster service!!!!  I made a similar suggestion to him and -- lo and behold, he pleasantly responded and said yes, he was going to communicate that to the supervisor!!!   And he smiled at me!!   I patted him on the back, with a Gracias, mae!!  (But he's a contract employee from a security firm, not a BN employee.)    Anyway, great job you're doing head of the BN Fan Club Berni, just wanted you -- and everyone else -- to know how much success you're having!   joe, another not so satisfied customer

so, you're refusing to take responsibility for this BN mess?  just like Trump, never admit mistakes!!  OK, yep, I do have options, but when I arrived here 8 yrs ago I didn't:  I got a job teaching right away (still have it) and the company pays (regularly) but only thru BN and at that time it was the only way a newbie could establish an acct.  I felt lucky.  And if I had my 'druthers, I'd move to Uvita in a heartbeat; it's my favorite place in CR😎

So you have a valid excuse

SOME PEOPLE SAY - THE WORST BANK IN THE WORLD

From wiki: "The character (The Shadow) had "the power to cloud men's minds so they cannot see him." This was a contrivance for the radio. In actuality, The Shadow did not have the ability to become literally invisible; he influenced the minds of his opponents by making them see him a few feet to the right or left of where he really stood. The effect of having this cloaked figure laughing while he was being shot at point-blank range was, at the least, unsettling."

Now to fully understand the relevance of this paragraph to Banco Nacional you have to have been a former BN customer.  Like us.

Hey Berni,

This brilliantly colored little moth which you have posted a photo of above appears to be what is showing up in several places on online as Cosmosoma regia (Schaus, 1894).  It is a type of wasp-moth.

From the many online photos I compared of species in this genus [ Cosmosoma ] this was the one that matched C. regia most closely, including the shape of the fenestrations on the wings and the small patches and streaks of metallic blue at the base of the wings, and also the white boots at the tips of the hind feet.

It is listed as native to el Perú and Venezuela but may have only recently blown into Costa Rica courtesy of Nate or Otto, or perhaps it may have just been fleeing Pres-for-Life Maburro.

Cheers!

Paul M.

Liz,

Your moth has been identified below - pretty RARE find - maybe the only find in CR?  Berni

(thanks Paul as always)
