Right now, this is not possible. We are, however, planning to enable this feature in the future. You can help us getting there: Tell us for which purpose you want to import objects into CoSpaces and which file types are most important for you.

By the way: Even though it’s not possible to import objects, it’s pretty easy to build your own objects from basic geometrical shapes in CoSpaces and then group them to form a new object.

Hello,

we would use CoSpaces as a combining platform, containing an end project for learning design using Autodesk tools.
The best format would probably be Obj.

I would like to create an art gallery. I saw in a blog post that that is one of the things you can be able to create. Not sure how that is possible without importing media.

Awesome platform.

It is very easy to import your own images into CoSpaces: You can just drag and drop your images from your desktop into the space.
It's just the three-dimensional objects that don't work yet.

Here is a little how-to guide on creating virtual exhibitions with CoSpaces: https://cospaces.io/exercises/virtual-exhibition.html

Hope you'll have fun, let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

I want my students to model characters objects in Maya and then import them in as obj files so that they can create their own VR experiences for everyone to enjoy.

We will support the FBX format first. Can you send us some examples of
your models so we can test the feature?

I'm an art teacher and my students make a lot of 3D artwork. I would like them to take 3D pictures of their work and create a virtual reality space containing their sculptures to interact with them.

Hi Marie-Eve,

with "3D pictures of their work" do you mean 360° images? If yes, you can now upload 360° images and use them as an environment. Here is a video on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOvr15jILjk

Or do you mean 3D objects somehow extracted from an image? We're working on an .fbx importer. So if you can export to this file format you will be able to import it to CoSpaces in the future.

I would really love my younger learners make physical 3d models - for example, invertebrates with traditional materials (playdough, blocks, cardboard etc) then use 3d model creation software to convert these creations into 3d models, then bring them into their own designed and created environments in Cospaces. Then the kids can explore each others habitats, built from their own artwork, and 'real-world' models.

This would take the hard step of model creation in cospaces for younger, inexperienced designers/creators.

Hi, can you show (send a file) an example of a 3d model created ?

Thanks

Hi

Just wondered if there was an update on when this feature will be coming? We work with many schools and they are very excited to be able to import objects  - .fbx or .obj. We love the cospaces environment. In the meantime we will keep building from blocks :)

Hey!

Sorry we haven't provided an update lately.

We are still currently working on the ability to import external files. We are currently working on .fbx and will then move on to .stl I believe. We're hoping to roll this out sooner rather than later, and will issue an update before we implement any changes so that you are away.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Hello,

We use .fbx files internally from the beginning, however this is not just any fbx; this is the fbx that must confirm a very large and complex specification document, which is not easy.

In order to relax and to reduce the complexity, we need to analyze user provided fbx files to understands your needs.
Can you please provide example files so that we can analyze its content and develop a more user-friendly spec for it ?

Thanks

CoSpacesEDU

If students could upload a 3D .stl or .obj file, it would be perfect.

Having a Team Create like Roblox studio would be the ultimate too.

We are currently working on the ability to import .stl and .obj files and hope to release this update soon.

With regards to the Team Create, we will take a look and add it to our list of possible features.

Thanks for your feedback!

If you have some example .stl & .obj files, could you please make them available for us and we will use them to test.

Many thanks!

Thanks Ben. Great edu tool! Try https://1drv.ms/u/s!ArTVbqoFLy4siKxrjYu__X2SVkte0g for a Humanoid model.
