On Activate question

Good evening,

love coSpaces already and am only now getting ready for my first summer class using it :) I came across a problem I need help with related to events. On hover works as expected, but on activate works fine with the mouse, touch on the phone, but does nothing when activating the button in the cardboard - now I have card boards version 1 that use the magnet - works as expected in other apps such as the cardboard demos. I am using an Android phone. Any ideas? Not being able to 'click' using a cardboard turns out to be quite a limitation :)

thanks for your feedback. At the moment onActivate() only works when you're touching the screen. As far as I know, Google dropped the idea with the magnetic button themselves and the new cardboards (also from other vendors) are using some touch mechanism for the buttons. The reason is that the magnetometer was not available on many Android phones and therefore the magnetic button didn't work.

But I understand your problem. If you have the chance to get newer cardboards it would be good. Or maybe you can make a small hole at bottom of the cardboard where the students can put their finger through to touch the screen. There are actually many cardboards with that solution. If there is no way for you to get around this problem I can talk to the team if we can implement onActivate() for the magnetic button as well. Please let me know.

Dear Benjamin,

thank you for the response and I understand the progression of the Cardboards with the different button mechanism. Right now, the version one with the magnet is still the cheapest version and I have ~100 of these old cardboards. I am running coding classes for girls (www.orcsgirls.org) and we give one to every girl, they build them and then we used to use some javascript and now we replace that part with coSpaces - so if adding a magnetic button to onActivate() is not too much trouble, that would be great :)

Unrelated, as we are having lots of girls coming through - how does ending a student account work, for example every year. You might see some pictureson social media after the weekend - I will make sure I tag coSpaces :)

Hi Thomas,

we're trying to get the onActivate() method to work with the magnetic button as well. But it will take a little bit of time till this new version is deployed and available to you. I'll let you know when it's done.

Regarding the student account. We are working on a feature to archive classes. If a class is archived the students in that class are not counted anymore in the number of active user accounts.

Hi,

at the moment the magnetic button works as a trigger only. Means that you can use it for an "onActivate" event for example. For walking which is more like a "long press" you still need to touch the screen or have a cardboard with a physical button mechanism.
