Avatar Animation System

I have read the documentation on the Avatar Animation System. I would like to experiment with this system, but I'm reading in the blog that changes are being made for WL. Should I wait until those changes are complete or can I use what's in the google code repository now? I am willing to wait if there are significant changes.
