Following a system update later in the year (i don't know exactly, maybe August/September 2023), I can no longer add an eSIM, in either Airalo or the SIM Card manager. When I click "Add eSIM", the indictor starts to spin, but it hangs indefinitely. When I attempt to install an eSIM via Airalo, the app just hangs/waits indefinitely as well. This happens when i'm on my home network, on wifi, with VPN on and VPN off.
I got a little ambitious and started to look at system logs. the output of `adb logcat` is definitely a little verbose to make sense of without filtering, so i tried searching for all events related to "esim" by running
At which point the screen changes and gives me a list of network providers to choose from, or the option to add an esim manually with a QR code (which i tried, and which airalo gave me). Unfortunately, adding with a QR code also times out after two minutes, after changing its state to EID_SEARCHING.
Today I bought an esim through an app (a very reputable service ). The app attempted to install the esim itself; I clicked allow when prompted to grant permission, but then the application said that it had failed the installation and I should try manually. I received the QR code, but when I went to the SIM manager in the settings, it gave an error saying, "Wait for your eSIM to finish being set up before using the SIM manager.". I now cannot access the SIM manager. I have tried the following things:
I don't know how to disengage the existing esim, as I cannot access the SIM manager to turn it off. I don't know how to stop that error message from appearing. If someone could help me, I would be deeply grateful.
@gamessty: Have you tried reaching out to the network who activated your previous/existing eSIM to see if they're able to de-activate it from their side. If the problem persists, try restarting the phone in Safe Mode to see if you're able to access your SIM card manager settings. To enter Safe Mode, press and hold the Power button until the 'Power off' prompt appears on the screen then release > Touch and hold Power off until the 'Safe mode' prompt appears then release > To confirm, tap Safe mode. To exit Safe Mode, restart your S22 device as you would normally.
I haven't been able to find a solution to the problem, I have tried @AndrewL's proposed solutions, and neither worked. I'm going to factory reset my phone this weekend with the hope that this will solve the problem. I will first do a backup to my phone, both on my laptop and on the cloud. It's inadmissible that I have to resort to a factory reset on a high-end last-gen Samsung phone. I will post something after, if it works. Hopefully!
Ok! So, since my last post there have been some further developments, let's say. I started backing up my phone through various cloud providers with the intent of factory resetting it, after that it crossed my mind that I should also back it up on my laptop, this is when on Smart Switch on my PC the possibility of performing an Update appeared. I quickly accepted T&C etc. and waited for the update to be done and installed, hoping that this kind of force restart would trigger some resetting of the eSim settings. Unfortunately not even that worked. So I carried on with the factory resetting (it was painful). The factory resetting worked like a charm (eh not so much), the backups did half the job, but I can now finally say that my phone works like before. I am now able to access my SIM manager and I have successfully installed an eSIM and accessed it. I am so disappointed that I have to resort to such "primitive" troubleshooting for what is an easy to make mistake. I wish you all luck and I hope that in the future Samsung improves the eSIM experience.
Exact same thing happened to mine on Thursday, Lycamobile e-sim has completely broken the network feature of my S22 and I cant delete the e-sim. Physical sims no longer work either and I have the same no entry sign.
My phone is actually with Samsung (TMT First) at the minute and if your phone has any cosmetic damage on it then I'm afraid you now own a very expensive paperweight because the warranty isn't going to cover the cost and you need a new subPBA (whatever that is).
Having exactly the same issue, tried removing the esim I bought from airlo and it won't go. Even after factory reset. Physical sim not recognising so phones essentially useless. Did you get it repaired by samsung?
Went into the esim app, status page, switch to "esim app network", which sends you to a different sim setting page on your phone. From there 1st line said use sim, which I unticked, and it then gave me option to delete sim which I did.
I had to factory reset my phone as well. Nothing else helped, but at least this painful reset was worth it and now the phone functions the way it should. I wonder what caused the problem in the first place. I am blaming the sketchy provided of the eSIM I was trying to install in the first place, but is it a Samsung glitch?
What i did is i just went and downloaded the airalo app and directly installed an expired esim i used to have so the phone can exit from the previous one and than just deleted the airalo esim from my phone and was able ti acces sim manager again hope it helps.
However I found a solution - even though I could not access my esim settings, I managed to search for esim on the settings search page, and on there there is an option to delete all the eSims. thankfully that worked and my phone is now back to normal.
I have been using an eSIM and a SIM together for a while now. This morning I received a message from my provider where I currently have a physical SIM that I can switch to eSIM. So, that's what I did, but after removing my physical SIM I noticed that I cannot activate two eSIMS at the time.
Migrating an esim to another phone is possible, network provider permitting. Some allow it by simply redownloading the esim through the apps, others make it more difficult or at times even impossible without visiting a physical store.
If Pixel can do it, there's no reason why Samsung couldn't do it.
I live in 2 countries and have had OnePlus'es for ages which sport a dual SIM tray.
Just got Z Fold 4 and made my primary SIM go e. I am also traveling quite a bit, so I thought this is handy!!
I can have both post paid as eSIMs and then use a physical prepaid when travelling in different countries for data. Pretty soon discovered that only one eSIM can be used at a time which was a HUGE disappointment from Samsung which should be a leader in this industry.
Hopefully, this is something that can be enabled/fixed with software update.
I work for an MVNO. An eSIM is not purely a software SIM, it's an Embedded SIM, IE, it's a microchip included on the device itself, pretty similar to a normal SIM, that has the ability to switch profiles. Asking why you can't enable more than one eSIM at a time is like asking why one physical SIM card isn't two SIM cards, it just doesn't have the capability to run two profiles at the same time. This is not a 'half baked' solution, it's an Embedded SIM solution. To get around this the manufacturer would need to include two or more eSIM chips on the device, given the limited use case for this it's unlikely that manufacturers would incur the additional cost.
I can't really think of a use case for more than two active cellular connections on a device at a time, however having the ability to switch between up to 20 installed eSIM profiles seems like overkill but should satisfy even the busiest traveler.
The 'hassle' of switching between profiles if you are travelling is not worth the additional cost and power consumption to include additional eSIM chips on the device.
Ok, thanks for the clarification. I'm still thinking whether it would be possible to achieve with one chip. I remember from my time with Nokia, when some chearper dual sim models had only one radio, which was used in turn by both SIMs which effectively simulated 2 SIMs working at the same time.
You can speak on you on behalf, but as an expat who travels a lot, I practically would preferably have the SIM from my home country and the country of residence on at the same time. And then occasianally a SIM card of the country I am visiting. Especially when so many ***** services use SMS verification etc.
The specs for the Samsung Note 20 Ultra on Samsung's website say the phone has an eSIM as well as a hybrid Dual SIM tray if you are willing to give up your SD Card slot on the tray. It also states that the availability of these items varies by carrier and location.
I have been asking in the Q/A section of the sales page for the Note 20 Ultra and answers from VZWB vary from completely useless to mildly frustrating. Possibly the most useful was when they were asked if the Note 20 Ultra would support eSIM, the answer was Yes. But when I followed that up with the question of would it the support Dual SIM with eSIM, the answer was that it didn't support eSIM, so No. Those two answers contradict each other.
What I am trying to get a definitive answer on, is will I be able to have two lines on this phone with Verizon like the IPhone 11 can do? There really isn't any good reason why it shouldn't work, but after a recent tech support nightmare trying and failing to get a Google Pixel 4XL do 2 lines after 2 weeks of T3 tech support, I'm not willing to take the same shot in the dark with this new phone. The Google Pixel 4XL IS listed in Verizon's supported Dual SIM with eSIM devices, however they were unable to make it work for me. Mostly because T3 tech support never bothered to call back when they were supposed to.
I have been carrying a personal phone and a work phone for almost 3 years now and it is exhausting. With having a Samsung watch and using Bluetooth speakers, Samsung Bluetooth earbuds and Bluetooth in the car, it's a juggling hassle to keep everything connected. A single phone for the two lines would vastly uncomplicate my life. I'm just too invested in the Samsung platform and the Andriod OS to switch to IPhone.
