Yeah, I found a way to do this via interface( ), is easy, but as I said, I need do this via command line for the following reason: I should do this in another computer, in our local network, that I access via SSH protocol, I already installed the dropbox and logged in my dropbox account from this another computer via ssh protocol, but still missing make this little change.

It's not a perfect solution, but you can stop the dropbox daemon, move the data folder, then symlink the data folder in its new location back to your home directory. I used this setup to move my dropbox data folder to an external drive when it got bigger than the SSD in my desktop.

I used to (on older server OS) get a dropbox tray icon on the client by
doing ssh -X to the server and running (as user) .dropbox-dist/dropboxd
I was hoping that the tray icon would let me change the directory.
But this does not happen in my current setup - don't know why.

Right now when you save a new password, that password is always saved in the no-folder and then afterwards you can organize it in a folder. This was fine for me as long as I was using bitwarden only for my personal passwords. I had no need to organize my passwords in folders anyway.

And because of this, the backup funtion won't work. This is sloppy programming! I was using Glacier from Synology (which is FREE BTW) and i just point it at my folders and BOOM! backed up. This bit of software cant even backup if the files are not where DropBox programmers have decided they must be. Really Bad Idea. anyone these days with a pc or laptop, which can use a second drive WILL move their folders off the boot drive. unless they have a death wish, of course...

That's not how the backup feature works with Dropbox. It doesn't back up those folders from their original location and just copy the data to your Dropbox account. It MOVES those folders into your Dropbox folder so they sync like any other file or folder in your Dropbox. It can only move them into Dropbox if they exist in their original location.

not going to happen. most modern users will have either a virtual partion or a 2nd hdd/ssd to store their data on. moving that data back to the "C" drive is not an option, just so dropbox can copy them to the cloud.

Since all that the Dropbox backup feature does is actually move your desktop/documents/downloads etc. folders INTO the Dropbox folder, you can do this manually through the Windows file explorer instead (not sure about the process for other platforms) to achieve the same effect, rather than Dropbox not being able to recognise the folders unless they are in the default location.

1) First, move your Dropbox folder onto the D drive if it's not already - click on the Dropbox application icon in the taskbar right-hand corner, click your profile picture and select Preferences. Go to the Sync tab and under 'Dropbox folder location' click Move. Set it so that the location is D:\Users\XXX\Dropbox and move all the files over (might take some time if there's lots of files in your Dropbox already).

2) Now open Windows file explorer, navigate to your Desktop folder, right-click on it and select Properties. Under the Location tab click on 'Move...' and navigate to the Dropbox folder, or manually type the file path D:\Users\XXX\Dropbox\Desktop and click OK. Hit yes if it asks to create the new folder and if you want to move all the files over to the new location etc.

Now your default locations for saving to these folders are contained within your Dropbox folder on the computer and therefore will automatically sync and backup any changes that are made to your Dropbox account. Hope this helps!

I installed dropbox as usual in one of my computers. But it won't backup the desktop because it says it's not in the default location. However I never changed it. The only thing I can think of is that the OS is set to spanish and the desktop folder is called the "escritorio" folder. But that's so very standard that I'm surprised it doesn't work. It's very frustating but at the same time made me not use my desktop as much for important documents.

I install your app to mantain a folder to share between various machines an when it start to "backup" my documents folder (I don't want this, only a specific folder) I stop the app then my "my documents" folder dissapear from my harddrive...

I'm tryn to recover the files (more than 120GB of data) and hope I can do it but now I start a fight against your app and your company, I know I havent a compensation but you have to learn to do as the user choose not only that olnly you want

I uninstalled Dropbox Backup yesterday (don't ask) and everything went well. I have always been able to see my Dropbox Backup files in the Dropbox folder (as hidden files). I reinstalled today and again everything went OK. However, I cannot see those files in the Dropbox folder any more, not even as hidden files. A bit of research suggests that they should be in Library/Cloud Storage. They are not. In fact, they don't seem to be anywhere. Where are they? I am running Ventura 13.1 on my 2020 iMac.

I would even say that it may not be useful at all. After all this is an empty folder that is not shared with anyone (as opposed to, say, Dropbox or Nextcloud where the folder is automatically shared/synchronized somewhere).

Either someone already has data to synchronize (and therefore shares the folder), or would create it themselves. I would be curious how many people actually use that default folder (maybe there is some telemetry on that?)

This is probably a fairly new tenant. We have disabled creation of classic folders for new tenants. Only modern folders can be used. But you can create your robots here, do anything you did with the old folder and more: -modern-folders

There is no default folder anymore. Right now robot are part of the Modern Folders and configuration for them is possible by settings for your user.

If it decided to use a project you last touched a year ago as the location when the window opens there is no easy way to get to your default location other than by navigating to it as you would any other folder/database.
Depending on how many folders or databases you have in a project, the sluggish nature of Pro means browsing Project > Databases or Project > Folders to get to the default location takes longer than the same action in ArcMap.

Looking at the drop-down behaviour - do you think it would be a good outcome if it listed all the project folders at the top first before showing the history? Granted - there is no point as it takes the same number of clicks to achieve the outcome as clicking on 'Folders' in the left tree.

On a related note, multiple users in my organization have suffered minor panic attacks when they click on "This PC" to navigate to their default folder only to find it apparently missing from the drive.

It turns out that once they make a folder the default folder, it no longer appears in its actual location when they navigate to it the long way rather than by using the Folders shortcut or the dropdown menu.

In this screenshot, you can see that the default folder is RSQ1806.01, and that folder is missing from the alphabetical list of folders in its parent folder when I navigate to it via "This PC" under "Computer":

Is this by design? A bug? I don't think I ever noticed the issue until the last couple months (but I usually navigate to my default folder via the "Folders" folder of folder connections located under "Project" at the top left). It could be that I'm just hearing more about it as we get more people in our organization using Pro.

Thanks!

We don't have an E: drive. The default folder (with home icon) is at the top of the list that is exposed when I click the down arrow at the top of the dialog. I can also see it as expected if I click Folders at the top left (see below).

However, if I scroll down and click on This PC under Computer, and then navigate to the folder's location, it is not visible while it's the default folder in the project. A lot of our users tend to do this before they get used to using the shortcuts that are available. Then they start to panic thinking their folder has been deleted from the drive.

I'm not sure that this happens in every dialog, but I'm able to reproduce it with the Export Features dialog.

That's right, I forgot that the reason the folder appears to be missing is that it moves to the top of the list of otherwise alphabetized folders. This might not be a big deal in a folder or drive that only contains a few folders, but for drives with a very flat folder structure with a huge number of folders at the same level as the default folder, it's not obvious at all. Users immediately start scrolling to where they expect the folder to be.

I guess what I'm saying is that it would be great if the default folder would just remain in its expected sort position rather than being promoted to the top of an otherwise alphabetical list (see screenshot below).
